Galway is a city in the West of Ireland, in the province of Connacht, which is the county town of County Galway. It lies on the River Corrib between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay. It is the most populous settlement in the province of Connacht, the sixth most populous city on the island of Ireland and the fourth most populous in the Republic of Ireland, with a population at the 2022 census of 83,456.

Professor Frank McGuinness is an Irish writer. As well as his own plays, which include The Factory Girls, Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme, Someone Who'll Watch Over Me and Dolly West's Kitchen, he is recognised for a "strong record of adapting literary classics, having translated the plays of Racine, Sophocles, Ibsen, Garcia Lorca, and Strindberg to critical acclaim". He has also published six collections of poetry, and two novels. McGuinness was Professor of Creative Writing at University College Dublin (UCD) from 2007 to 2018.

Sin Newspaper is a student newspaper in Galway, Ireland. Its offices are based at the University of Galway. Sin is published fortnightly and covers news about Galway events on and off campus, while its entertainment and features sections aim to entertain and provoke debate and shape opinion. Sin accepts articles from past and present students and lecturers and staff. Sin was founded in 2001 and replaced the University College Galway student periodical Unity, which was published from 1959 until the late 1990s. Sin was printed in tabloid size across 32 pages until 2020 when it moved online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Galway African Film Festival (GAFF) is an annual African film festival taking place in Galway on the west coast of Ireland in late May / early June to coincide with Africa Day an annual commemoration on 25 May of the 1963 founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU). It aims to showcase the wealth and diversity of African film that would otherwise be inaccessible to Galway audiences. Secondly, the Festival aims to reflect and celebrate the culturally diverse profile of Galway society, the city with the highest percentage (2.8%) of people from African countries. The Festival is organised by the Galway One World Centre in collaboration with the Huston School of Film & Digital Media and the Galway Film Society. Venues for screenings of films have included the Town Hall Theatre, Huston School of Film & Digital Media, and Nuns Island Theatre. The Festival is supported by Irish Aid, Galway City Arts Office, Galway City Council and the Galway Advertiser.
Elaine Feeney is an Irish poet, novelist, and playwright. Her writing focuses on "the central themes of history, national identity, and state institutions, and she examines how these forces structure the everyday lives of Irish women". A former slam poetry winner, she has been described as "an experienced writer who has been wrestling with poetry on page and on stage since 2006" and in 2015 was heralded as "one of the most provocative poets to come out of Ireland in the last decade". Her work has been widely translated, including into Italian, Lithuanian, and Slovene.
Dora Gorman is an Irish physician and footballer who plays as a midfielder for Peamount United of the Women's National League (WNL). In 2010, she was captain of the Republic of Ireland U-17 squad who were runners-up in the 2010 UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship and quarter-finalists in the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. As well as being a medical doctor, Gorman is an all-round sportswoman. She has also represented the Ireland women's national field hockey team at various levels and has played senior inter-county ladies' Gaelic football for the Galway county team.

Galway United Football Club is an Irish association football club based in Galway. It is the women's section of the League of Ireland club Galway United. Since 2013–14 the club played in the Women's National League (WNL) and did so as Galway WFC until 2022. Throughout its existence the club has been closely associated with both the Galway Ladies League and the Galway Football Association. The WNL team had its origins in the Galway Ladies League representative team that won the 2007 FAI Women's Cup and then represented the Republic of Ireland in the 2008–09 UEFA Women's Cup. The Galway Ladies League and its member clubs, such as Salthill Devon, Galway Bohemians, Corrib Celtic, Colga F.C. and NUI Galway, served as a feeder system for Galway WFC.
