Mariano Acosta is a city located in Merlo Partido, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Mariano Acosta was founded by the landholder and businessman Juan Posse in the earliest 20th century, and for years the town was known as Villa (village) Posse. Villa Posse changed its name to Mariano Acosta when the British-owned railway company Buenos Aires Western Railway Co. opens a railway station at its surroundings in 1910. The station was named after Mariano Acosta (1825-1893), Argentine lawyer and politician, former Vice-President of Argentina and governor of Buenos Aires.

Comahuetherium is an extinct genus of astrapotherian mammal from the Early Miocene. It is a basal astrapotheriid which lived in what is now Patagonia, Argentina. The holotype was found in the Cerro Bandera Formation in Neuquén Province, northern Patagonia and additional specimens were found at the Gran Barranca south of Lake Colhué Huapi, in Chubut Province of central Patagonia. It was first named by Alejandro Kramarz and Mariano Bond in 2011 and the type species is Comahuetherium coccaorum.

The cathedral is the city's main Roman Catholic church, serving the Diocese of Comodoro Rivadavia, part of the Archdiocese of Bahía Blanca. It was inaugurated by Bishop Moure Argimiro on November 26, 1978, and consecrated on June 9, 1979, by Monsignor Mariano Pérez, first Bishop of Comodoro Rivadavia. The building was constructed in Gothic-Modern style; some elements, such as a stained glass window, were brought from Turin, Italy, in 1959.
