Marie-Claude Nichols (born December 5,1973) is a Canadian politician born in Terrebonne,Quebec. Nichols was elected to the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2014 election. [1] She represents the electoral district of Vaudreuil.
She was re-elected in 2018,and 2022. Shortly after being elected as liberal in 2022,she was expelled from caucus by party leader Dominique Anglade on October 27,2022 for refusing the transport critic role. [2] Prior to her election to the legislature,Nichols was the mayor of Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot for 5 years.

The 2007 Quebec general election was held in the Canadian province of Quebec on March 26,2007 to elect members of the 38th National Assembly of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party led by Premier Jean Charest managed to win a plurality of seats,but were reduced to a minority government,Quebec's first in 129 years,since the 1878 general election. The Action démocratique du Québec,in a major breakthrough,became the official opposition. The Parti Québécois was relegated to third-party status for the first time since the 1973 election. The Liberals won their lowest share of the popular vote since Confederation,and the PQ with their 28.35% of the votes cast won their lowest share since 1973 and their second lowest ever. Each of the three major parties won nearly one-third of the popular vote,the closest three-way split in Quebec electoral history until the 2012 election. This was however,the closest three-way race in terms of seat count. Voter turnout among those eligible was 71.23%,a marginal difference from the previous general election in 2003.

The next Quebec Liberal Party leadership election will be held to elect a new leader to replace Dominique Anglade,who announced her resignation on November 7,2022 amid mounting criticism within the party for her performance in the 2022 Quebec general election and for her subsequent decision to remove Liberal MNA Marie-Claude Nichols that saw her removed from caucus. Anglade had led the party to losses in the election held a month earlier,finishing with only 21 seats and 14% of the popular vote,their lowest seat count since 1956 and their lowest share of the popular vote in their history;while the party remained the official opposition,they fell behind the governing Coalition Avenir Québec and opposition Parti Québécois and Québec solidaire to place fourth in the popular vote.
