Marie Saine-Firdaus (born 1973) is a Gambian lawyer and politician.

Early life

Born on 25 April 1973, Firdaus did her schooling in Banjul before receiving her Bachelor of Law degree from the International Islamic University Malaysia in 2000. She did her LLM in human rights from the University of Pretoria (2006). [1]

Career

After completing her graduation, Firdaus became a state counsel in November 2000. [1] Later in 2007, she served as a legal adviser to the President's Office in Gambia. [2] On 14 September 2007, the Gambian president Yahya Jammeh appointed her the Secretary of State for Justice and Attorney General of the Gambia. She replaced Kebba Sanyang. [3] The following month, Firdaus headed a Gambian delegation sent to Taiwan. [2] She was one of the recipients of the title Officer of the National Order of the Republic of The Gambia, conferred by Jammeh in May 2009. [4] She was succeeded by Edward A. Gomez. [5]

In 2011, a corruption case involving 880,250.00 Gambian dalasi was filed against Firdaus at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court. [6]

She is a member of the Female Lawyers Association of The Gambia. [7]

The April 2000 Gambian student massacre was the killing of 14 people by Gambian police officers and soldiers on the 10 April 2000 at a student protest in Banjul, the Gambia. The protest had been called following two separate incidents - the beating to death of secondary school student Ebrima Barry by firefighters, and the rape of a 13-year-old girl by a uniformed police officer - and the lack of investigation of both of those incidents. Despite firing live ammunition into the protesters after government buildings had been damaged, no charges have been brought against those involved, and the Yahya Jammeh government suppressed commemoration of the event. Adama Barrow's government has since promised to investigate the shooting.

The Gambia Senior Secondary School is a school in Box Bar Road, Banjul, Gambia, founded by Wesleyan missionaries. It has educated two leaders of Gambia.

Abdou Kareem Savage was the chief justice of Gambia from 22 February 2006 till 8 June 2009. He was preceded by Stephen Alan Brobbey and succeeded by Akomaye Agim.

Ndey Tapha Sosseh is a Gambian journalist and unionist. In 2004, she became editor-in-chief of The Daily Observer, making her the first female editor-in-chief of a daily newspaper in the Gambia's history. From 2008 to 2011, she served as president of the Gambia Press Union.

Naceesay Salla-Wadda also spelt either as Na Ceesay Salla Wadda or Naceesay Sallah-Wadda is a Gambian lawyer and legal expert.
