Marilynne Paspaley AM is an Australian film and television actress and businesswoman of Greek descent, who is best known for her role in the television series G. P. as Dr. Tessa Korkidas. She appeared in the movie Evil Angels (A Cry in the Dark) [1] and other television series such as Water Rats .

Paspaley has been referred to as "daughter of Australia's most famous pearling dynasty", [2] as she is a second generation member of the Paspaley family, well known in Australia as the largest producer of South Sea Pearls.

Order of Australia

In 2008, Marilynne Paspaley was honoured with an Order Of Australia, [3] for her contribution to the marketing and promotion of pearls and Australian designed jewellery.

Family

Paspaley is the daughter of Nicholas Paspaley Senior, Master Pearler and founder of the Paspaley Pearls empire. [4] The business is now owned by the founders children being, herself, her brother Nicholas Paspaley, and her sister Roslynne Bracher. Marilynne Paspaley also owns and operates business interests in hospitality in the North West of Australia, under the umbrella name of Pinctada Hotels and Resorts, which includes the multi award winning boutique retreat Pinctada McAlpine House, once owned by Lord Alister McAlpine . [5] [6] Paspaley is also known as a promoter of beach polo, being the founder of the annual Cable Beach Polo [7] [8] [9] event in Broome, Western Australia. Paspaley is also the Governor of the International Beach Polo Association (Australasian Region). [10]

Pearl Coast Zoological Gardens, also known as Pearl Coast Zoo, or simply Broome Zoo, was a 64-acre (26 ha) zoo founded by Lord Alistair McAlpine in the Cable Beach suburb of Broome, Western Australia. First opened in 1984, by 1988 the zoo had more than doubled in size. The zoo was one of a number of developments of McAlpine's in the town credited with transforming Broome from a "derelict" place into "an international tourist destination". The zoo closed in the early 1990s due to falling visitor numbers, and the animals were sold. At its peak, the zoo consisted of 75 acres, of which 35 acres were built upon.
