Marion Verbruggen (born 1950) is a Dutch recorder player and teacher.
Verbruggen was born in Amsterdam and studied with Kees Otten at the Amsterdam Conservatory. [1] She then studied at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Frans Brüggen. Upon completing her diplomas cum laude, she was invited to join the faculty at the Royal Conservatory. She is now[ when? ] a guest teacher there, and gives master-classes and workshops throughout the world.
Marion Verbruggen is one of the world's leading soloists on the recorder. Her discography ranges from 17th-century Spanish songs and theatre music to her own transcriptions of the cello suites by J.S. Bach. She is an ardent advocate of contemporary music.[ citation needed ]
Verbruggen made her conducting debut recently[ when? ] with the Portland Baroque Orchestra in Portland, Oregon.

A Far Cry is a Boston-based chamber orchestra. The orchestra is self-conducted and consists of 18 musicians called "The Criers". It was founded in 2007 by a group of 17 musicians in Boston. The orchestra performs in Jamaica Plain and previously served as Chamber Orchestra in Residence at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. A Far Cry has toured across America and undertook their first European tour in 2012. They also collaborate with local students in an educational partnership with the New England Conservatory and Project STEP. The orchestra has released nine albums, two of which have been nominated for Grammy Awards for Best Chamber Music / Small Ensemble Performance: Dreams & Prayers in 2015 and Visions and Variations in 2019.
