Invercargill Marist Rugby Football Club is an amateur New Zealand rugby union club based in the Southland Region of New Zealand. Their senior team plays in the Southlandwide Premier Division for the Galbraith Shield. The club boasts one of the most loyal supporters groups in the region which can be credited to Peter D Grace, the founder of the Supporters Club. The current team captained by former New Zealand Under-20 representative Scott Eade features five current Southland representatives. The local patron of the rugby club is Nathan "Birdman" Burgess.

The Marist club has produced numerous Southland representatives and five All Blacks, the most recent being Paul Henderson in the 1990s. [1]

The Auckland Rugby Union is a New Zealand provincial rugby union. The union was established in 1883 and was originally responsible for the administration of the sport in most of the former Auckland Province, although its boundaries have since shrunk to include only a portion of the Auckland urban area. The union governs the Auckland representative team, which has won New Zealand's first-tier domestic provincial competition 17 times, more than any other team. Their most recent title was the 2018 Mitre 10 Cup Premiership. The union administers all club rugby within its boundaries, including the Gallaher Shield and other senior club rugby, as well as school rugby. Central Vikings Rugby Union was a New Zealand rugby union team that played in the second division of the NPC for two seasons in 1997 and 1998. Blues RC (Invercargill) is an amateur rugby team that plays in the Premier Division of Southland Club Rugby. Founded in 1874, the club has a prestigious history, and it boasts 31 Galbraith Shield titles including a record period of 8 in a row. Blues has had many All Blacks and NZ representatives including their most recent All Black in Ethan De Groot and NZ under 20 representative Jay Renton. Other representatives in All Black Elliot Dixon, joined by Simon Culhane, David Henderson, Michael Fatialofa, Kendrick Lynn, James Wilson. Blues have a number notable current players which are competing for Southland Stags honours. The current backline is full of speed and power which compliments the strong forward pack. Blues last won the Galbraith Shield beating Star 16 - 9 in the 2019 grand final. Blues have a very strong Women's Rugby squad who are current defending champions only losing 1 game in the last 4 years. Blues have a wealth of youth and experience and are set to defend their incredible record during the 2022 season. Strong squads in the Blues Bs and Cs side ensures depth across the board.

Turnbull Thomson Park is a public park located in Invercargill, Southland, South Island, New Zealand. It is within the region of Southland Plains, covered with grass on low flatland with some trees around the large open space. The park is mainly used for sports and recreation purposes. As a natural reserve, it also has unique environmental and scenic value to the city.

William Robert "Robin" Archer was a New Zealand rugby union player and coach. A first five-eighth, Archer represented Otago and Southland at a provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks.

John Patrick Kirwan, nicknamed "Jack Kirwan", was a rugby union and rugby league player. He represented the Hawke's Bay province and Auckland in rugby union before switching to rugby league in 1924. He was selected for the New Zealand team in 1925 becoming Kiwi number 174 in the process. His grandson was also named John Kirwan and he went on to become a famous All Black in the 1980s and 90s before also switching to rugby league.
