Mark Nevill

Mark Warriedar Nevill (born 1 July 1947) is a former Australian politician.

He was born in North Fremantle and was a geologist before entering politics. In 1983 he was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Council as a Labor member for South-East Province, moving to Mining and Pastoral in 1989. He was a parliamentary secretary from 1990 to 1993, when he became Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Council, holding a variety of shadow portfolios until he lost the position in 1997. On 23 August 1999 he resigned from the Labor Party to sit as an independent. He lost his seat in 2001. [1]

Beeliar Wetlands

The Beeliar Wetlands are made up of two chains of lakes and wetlands that run parallel to the west coast of Western Australia. They are situated on the Swan Coastal Plain between the Darling Escarpment and the Indian Ocean. Beeliar was the name given to the area by the Aboriginal people that lived and hunted in the area.

2017 Western Australian state election

The 2017 Western Australian state election was held on Saturday 11 March 2017 to elect members to the Parliament of Western Australia, including all 59 seats in the Legislative Assembly and all 36 seats in the Legislative Council. The eight-and-a-half-year two-term incumbent Liberal–WA National government, led by Premier Colin Barnett, was defeated in a landslide by the Labor opposition, led by Opposition Leader Mark McGowan.

William Dartnell Johnson

William Dartnell Johnson was an Australian politician who was prominent in state politics in Western Australia for most of the first half of the 20th century. A member of the Labor Party, he served in the Legislative Assembly on three occasions – from 1901 to 1905, then again from 1906 to 1917, and finally from 1924 until his death. Johnson was elected leader of the Labor Party in October 1905, but three weeks later lost his own seat at the 1905 state election. He had previously been a minister in the government of Henry Daglish, and later returned to the ministry under John Scaddan. Towards the end of his career, Johnson also served just under a year as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, from 1938 to 1939.
