Market Mall is a shopping centre located in the Nutana Suburban Centre neighbourhood on the east side of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Built in the 1960s as Saskatoon's first enclosed shopping centre, it has undergone four major expansions since the late 1970s and now houses approximately 90 stores and services, anchored as of January 2021 by Giant Tiger, Planet Fitness and FreshCo. It also contains an 18-hole indoor miniature golf course, a branch of Service Canada, and a six-bay City of Saskatoon Transit terminal that was added in 2006. A branch of the Dollarama discount chain opened in 2014, replacing a bingo hall that had operated in the mall for a number of years.
Market Mall is located on Preston Avenue on land bounded by Adelaide Street to the North, Louise Street to the South; Preston Ave South to the West, and McEown Avenue to the East.
Former anchor tenants have included Zellers, Kmart, Canadian Tire, Stedmans and a department store that at varying times used the brandings Macleods and Gambles before it was finally closed in the early 1990s. When the mall first opened, and continuing until its first major renovation, a unique feature was an "open air" format that saw most walls between stores being only eight feet tall, creating what was described as a market atmosphere. In September 2011, it was reported that Target Canada, as part of its takeover of the Zellers chain, had purchased the leasehold for the Market Mall location with the possibility of it being converted to a Target store in the future. [5] Prior to this, in June 2011, mall management announced that the Zellers location would close in 2012 to facilitate plans to build an 18,000-sq.-ft. expansion to the mall and add a residential component. [6] Ultimately, the Zellers location did close in the spring of 2012, and the department-store sized bay did not become a Target, remaining vacant for several years and used for a succession of seasonal and short-term retailers.
In spring of 2011 Hanger's closed its doors and the space sat vacant for three and a half years before Dollarama opened in spring of 2014
In March 2018, the mall changed ownership. The new owners announced that the plans to add 440 condominium units had been cancelled, and that the bay formerly occupied by Zellers would be taken over by two new anchor tenants, Giant Tiger and Planet Fitness. Both opened for business in the fall of 2018. [7] In July 2019, Sobeys announced that the Safeway at Market Mall and three other locations in Saskatoon would be closed and converted to its discount banner FreshCo in 2020. [8]
In June 2021, a fire broke out in the mall's Dollarama location. Although quickly extinguished and causing $100,000 in damages, the fire led to portions of the mall being closed for several weeks. [9] [10] Coinciding with the closure, work began on renovations to the interior of the mall, including the temporary closure of the miniature golf course; several new retailers have been announced as joining the mall, including a branch of Tim Hortons. The renovations were completed by the end of 2021.

Apple opened a second store in Edmonton at Southgate Centre on May 28, 2010, Edmonton's first Lego store opened in June 2013, London Drugs moved up 51 Avenue from 105 Street in fall of 2022, and Edmonton's sixth H&M location opened in fall of 2022. The centre is located adjacent to Whitemud Drive and 111 Street, and is located across from a transit bus station and the Southgate LRT Station.
Chinook Centre is the largest shopping mall in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is located near the geographic centre of the city on Macleod Trail, north of Glenmore Trail about 5 km (3.1 mi) south of downtown, and three blocks west of the Chinook CTrain station. The Centre is a major shopping mall located south-east of the junction of Circle Drive and 8th Street in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in the Wildwood neighbourhood. Sometimes commonly referred to as The Centre At Circle And 8th or The 8th Street Mall It is currently anchored by Sport Chek, Saskatoon Co-op, Rainbow Cinemas, the Centre Cinemas, Shoppers Drug Mart, Best Buy, Indigo Books and Music and Dollarama. Until 2003–2005, Canadian Tire and Walmart were also part of this mall. They both moved to the big box development of Preston Crossing; a Zellers department store that had operated in the west end of the mall since it was built in the early 1970s subsequently relocated from its original location to occupy the vacated Walmart location at the east end. The Zellers has since closed and has been converted into Target, which also subsequently closed. The Centre boasts more than 90 shops and services, several art display spaces in Centre East, and a 2-level temperature-controlled underground parkade.
Alberni Mall is an outdoor shopping mall located in Port Alberni, British Columbia. Formerly an indoor mall until April 15, 2007, major renovation and redevelopment of the former mall complex began in the spring of that year, and it will most likely also be renamed as part of its updating.
Nutana Suburban Centre is a mixed-development neighbourhood located in south-central Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. It is a classified as a "suburban centre" subdivision, composed of medium to high-density multiple-unit dwellings, commercial areas and civic facilities. As of 2009, the area is home to 2,962 residents. Housing in the neighbourhood consists of high-density apartment-style dwellings and row houses. The neighbourhood is considered a lower-income area, with an average family income of $34,474, an average dwelling value of $266,311 and a home ownership rate of 29.3%. The low average income but comparatively high dwelling value is due to the number of senior citizens residing in the neighbourhood. The age distribution of Nutana SC's population is skewed very highly toward residents age 65 and older.
