Marko Modic (born 26 August 1958 in Ljubljana) is a Slovenian photographer, painter and visual artist from Ljubljana, Slovenia. [1] Photographic and artistic circles of the world attributed Marko Modic a special place because of his unique and colorful works of art. [2]
In 1976 he got his first camera Praktica from his father. At the beginning he worked in black and white photographs and later embarked on a more complex photo-montage that he uses also in his work today. Photograph is used occasionally as a basis on which then he draws a picture. In his work are photographs, paintings, books, as well as performances. Modic's enigmatic photographic works show an extreme sensibility towards perception and use of colors. He captures details of everyday objects or places and uncommonly presents them in insolation, neither in a content nor in perspective-evoking ambiguous interpretation and curiosity... [3]
In 1988 Marko Modic won "Zlata ptica" ["Golden Bird"], a Slovenian award for extraordinary achievements in the fields of cultural creation. [4] Marko Modic has exhibited his photographs widely at home, in Italy, Ecuador, Argentina, UK, Canada... In 2011 he had an exhibition "Written on skin of the Earth" [5] in Tivoli Park in Ljubljana, Slovenia and in Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, Banff, Canada. [3]
At the end of 70's and in the early 80's he was an active member of Ljubljana Cave Exploration Society (DZRJL), took part in high mountain deep cave exploration, was the editor of the society's journal Glas podzemlja [Voice of the Underground] and contributed to design and contents of other caving publications. Edo Murtić was a painter from Croatia, best known for his lyrical abstraction and abstract expressionism style. He worked in a variety of media, including oil painting, gouache, graphic design, ceramics, mosaics, murals and theatrical set design. Murtić travelled and exhibited extensively in Europe and North America, gaining international recognition for his work, which can be found in museums, galleries and private collections worldwide. He was one of the founders of the group "March" (Mart) in 1956, and received many international awards. In 1958 Murtić participated in the three biggest events in the world of contemporary art: the Venice Biennale, the Carnegie Prize in Pittsburgh, and Documenta in Kassel. Interest in the art of Edo Murtić continues to grow, with retrospective exhibits in major museums.
Slovenj Gradec is a town in northern Slovenia. It is the centre of the City Municipality of Slovenj Gradec. It is part of the historical Styria region, and since 2005 it has belonged to the NUTS-3 Carinthia Statistical Region. It is located in the Mislinja Valley at the eastern end of the Karawanks mountain range, about 45 km (28 mi) west of Maribor and 65 km (40 mi) northeast of Ljubljana.
Avgust Černigoj, also known in Italian as Augusto Cernigoi, was a Yugoslav-era Slovenian painter known for his avant-garde experiments in Constructivism.
Zoran Mušič, baptised as Anton Zoran Musič, was a Slovene painter, printmaker, and draughtsman. He was one of the few painters of Slovene descent who managed to establish himself in the elite cultural circles of Italy and France, particularly Paris, where he lived for most of his later life. He painted landscapes, still lifes, portraits, and self-portraits, as well as scenes of horror from the Dachau concentration camp and vedute of Venice.

The Marinko Sudac Collection, based in Zagreb, Croatia, has been created with a clear collecting strategy based on the region of Central and Eastern Europe, additionally spanning from the Baltic area to the Black Sea. The guiding principle of the Collection is systematic exploration, researching, and promotion of the avant-garde practices which have been marginalized, forbidden, and at times completely negated due to the historical, social and political circumstances. In this context, the Marinko Sudac Collection gives the most complete and comprehensive overview on the art of this region. The Collection starts at 1909, and it show the continuity from the first Avant-Gardes, through neo-avant-garde and New Artistic Practices, ending with the fall of the Berlin Wall. The global uniqueness of the Marinko Sudac Collection is also seen in the kind of media it contains. It contains not only traditional artworks, such as paintings, sculptures, and photographs, but it gives equal importance to documentary and archival material. Great importance is put on these almost forgotten media, which enable research of specific phenomena, artists and the socio-political situation which affected this type of art. The Collection contains a great number of museological units, and it treats the documentary and archival material on the same level as traditional artworks. By examining the units contained in the Marinko Sudac Collection, one can read not only the art scene or the art production of a certain artist, but the full status of the society, the socio-political atmosphere of the region in which this art was created in.
Branko Cvetkovic, a Slovenian photographer known for his philosophically conceptualized approach to photography. Working mostly with large-format cameras, his architecture photography is minimalistically structured. From symmetry he opens up the space perspective to deconstructivism, and in art there is a transition to a non-perspective suprematist plane, thus coinciding with abstract expressionism. Besides space, his main concern is the phenomenon of light itself, the two basic postulates in photography.
Zdenka Badovinac is a curator and writer, who has served between 1993 and 2021 as director of the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana, comprised since 2011 of two locations: the Museum of Modern Art and the Metelkova Museum of Contemporary Art in Metelkova, an autonomous art, culture, and social center in Ljublijana.
Irena Kazazić is a Serb-Slovenian visual artist, based in and mainly operating from Ljubljana, with many of her works being presented abroad at international events in Croatia, Italy, United States and Austria. In 2017 she founded her own visual arts vehicle and brand Finer Side of Pop – phrase coined by Serbian writer and art historian Marko Dabetić, and it became a title of subsequent monograph dedicated to Kazazić’s work, which saw release in 2020. Currently very active within the artist community of Ljubljana, Kazazić also collaborates with designers, alternative music labels and is known locally for her engagement in cultural and civic activism, including work with refugees and volunteering during 2014 Southeast Europe floods in Obrenovac, Serbia. In 2015. she curated a public exhibition of urban artists for Ulična galerija, which utilized public spaces as exhibition sites. She was admitted into Ljubljana Fine Artists Society in 2021.
Kamal Amin Awad (1923–1979) was a pioneering Egyptian artist in the field of graphic arts. The artist, whose masterpieces and unique techniques impressed Egyptian modern art, was born in Tanta in 1923. He was interested in teaching his students about the modern techniques applied by schools abroad. However, he was keen to make use of the talents of his ancient forerunners in view of Egypt's rich Pharaonic, Coptic, Islamic and Folk arts. Accordingly, he succeeded in a unique style in his works. The artist's versatility helped him to work as a photographer, a sculptor, and an illustrator. He received the First Class Award of Art and Science in 1974.
Modern Gallery is a museum in Zagreb, Croatia that holds the most important and comprehensive collection of paintings, sculptures and drawings by 19th and 20th century Croatian artists. The collection numbers around 10,000 works of art, housed since 1934 in the historic Vranyczany Palace in the centre of Zagreb, overlooking the Zrinjevac Park. A secondary gallery is the Josip Račić Studio at Margaretska 3.

Takesada Matsutani is a Japanese contemporary mixed-media artist. He was a member of the Gutai group from 1963 to the dissolution of the group in 1972. His well-known work involves a technique of blowing a gust of air into a puddle of vinyl wood glue, creating bulges, bubbles, and drips, then covered by patient strokes of graphite pencil. Matsutani's works are represented in a large number of prestigious art museums and collections around the world. In 2002 the artist, who has lived a large part of his childhood in Nishinomiya, received the Nishinomiya City Cultural Award.
Vlado Martek is a Croatian artist whose work is based on visualising poetry. In his art pieces he works with poems and fragments of poems by putting them into collages, photographs, plots, graphics, sketches, drawings, art actions and agitations, graffiti and wallpapers. Vlado Martek lives in Zagreb, where he works as a librarian since 1979.
Alban Muja is a Kosovan contemporary artist and film-maker. In 2019 he represented Kosovo at the 58th Venice Biennale. In his work he is mostly influenced by the social, political and economical transformation processes in wider surrounding region, he investigates history and socio-political themes and links them to his position in Kosovo today. His works cover a wide range of media including video installation, films, drawings, paintings, photographs and performance which have been exhibited extensively in various exhibitions and festivals.
