Marko Putkonen

Marko Putkonen (born 18 October 1947 in Helsinki) [1] is a Finnish opera singer with a bass background. [2]

Life and career

Putkonen is known as a singer of Hortto Kaalo, [3] who specializes in Roma music. He is one of founding member of band Hortto Kaalo, which was founded in 1969. [4] In the 1980s, he began his career as an opera singer. He studied singing at the Sibelius Academy's Opera School (1982–1984), the Zurich Opera Studio (1984–1985) and the Zurich Academy of Music (1985–1986), and was attached to the Zurich Opera (1985–1986) and the Finnish National Opera (1986–2002). [5]

Putkonen's wife is a journalist and theater director Tuovi Putkonen. They have three children, a son Janus Putkonen and daughters Esma Haddas and Krista Putkonen-Örn. [6] [7]

Aulis Sallinen is a Finnish contemporary classical music composer. His music has been variously described as "remorselessly harsh", a "beautifully crafted amalgam of several 20th-century styles", and "neo-romantic". Sallinen studied at the Sibelius Academy, where his teachers included Joonas Kokkonen. He has had works commissioned by the Kronos Quartet, and has also written seven operas, eight symphonies, concertos for violin, cello, flute, horn, and English horn, as well as several chamber works. Atlantis FC Finnish football club

Riki Sorsa

Richard Esko "Riki" Sorsa was a Finnish pop singer. He started his career in 1974 as the lead singer in the band The Zoo. He represented Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 1981 with the entry "Reggae OK", a reggae influenced song in Finnish which came 16th. The song was composed by Jim Pembroke, the lyrics were written by Olli Ojala, and it was conducted by Otto Donner. Sorsa released several albums, singing in Finnish, Swedish, and English. Sorsa died of cancer on 10 May 2016.

Theodore Antoniou, was a Greek composer and conductor. His works vary from operas and choral works to chamber music, from film and theatre music to solo instrumental works. In addition to his career as composer and conductor, he was professor of composition at Boston University. His education included studies in violin, voice, and composition at the National Conservatory of Athens, the Hellenic Conservatory, and conducting at both The Hochschule für Musik and the International Music Centre in Darmstadt. He was a member of the Academy of Athens.

Peter Lindroos Finnish opera singer

Paul Peter Christer Lindroos was a Finnish opera singer who appeared in leading tenor roles throughout Europe but was particularly associated with the Finnish National Opera and the Royal Danish Opera. Although he specialised in the 19th-century Italian spinto repertoire, he also sang in many 20th-century works and created the role of The King in Erik Bergman's Det sjungande trädet in 1995. In his later years he was a professor of voice at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and the Malmö Academy of Music in Sweden. He died along with his young son in a car accident near Malmö at the age of 59. He is buried in Pohja, Finland, the town of his birth.

Jaakko Ilkka Kuusisto was a Finnish violinist, composer, and conductor.

Janus Putkonen is a Finnish theater director and journalist. Putkonen was the editor-in-chief of the Online Media website, which was active in 2011–2013. From 2015 to 2018, he was the director of the Russian backed Donetsk Separatist Information Center Doni-News. Since 2019, he has been the editor-in-chief of MV-media. Putkonen focused Russian funded Doni-news and MV-media to support pro-Russian propaganda about the Donetsk People's Republic.

Hortto Kaalo Finnish Romani band

Hortto Kaalo is a Finnish gypsy music band performing in both Finnish and Romani. They specialize in Eastern European and French gypsy music. The band's name in Romani means 'real Roma'.
