Its name comes from the first volume, The Three-Body Problem, of the novel series and refers to a classical physics problem dealing with Newton's laws of motion and gravitation. Previous adaptations include The Three-Body Problem in Minecraft (2014–2020) and the Chinese live-action Three-Body (2023), both of which were exclusively in Mandarin.
