Malay Indonesians are ethnic Malays living throughout Indonesia. They are one of the indigenous peoples of the country. Indonesian, the national language of Indonesia, is a standardized form of Riau Malay. There were numerous Malay kingdoms in what is now Indonesia, mainly on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. These included Srivijaya, the Melayu Kingdom, Dharmasraya, the Sultanate of Deli, the Sultanate of Siak Sri Indrapura, the Riau-Lingga Sultanate, the Sultanate of Bulungan, Pontianak Sultanate, and the Sultanate of Sambas. This classification is different from the Malaysia and Singapore census which includes all ethnic Muslims in the Indonesian archipelago as Malays.

Indravarman VI, Ba Dich Lai, Chang-pa-ti-lai, Virabhadravarman, or Ngauk Klaung Vijaya was the son of Jaya Simhavarman VI. He took the name Indravarman when crowned in 1432. In order to maintain Đại Việt neutrality, he gave up the important province of Indrapura. Maspero lists Nauk Glaun Vijaya as the son of Jaya Simhavarman VI, which may be the same individual, but states he did not assume his father's reign after his death in 1441. Indrapura (Champa) Cham capital

Indrapura was the capital city of the kingdom of Champa from 875 CE until 982, for several decades, under the reign of Indravarman I (877-890) and some of his followers belonging to the 6th dynasty in Dong Duong. The word Indrapura means "City of Indra" in Sanskrit, Indra being the Hindu God of Storm and War, and King of the Gods in the Rig Veda.

The Sultanate of Siak Sri Indrapura, often called Sultanate of Siak, was a kingdom that was located in the Siak Regency, Riau from 1722 to 1949 CE. It was founded by Raja Kechil, who from the Johor Kingdom, after he failed to seize the throne of the Sultanate of Johor. The polity expanded in the 18th century to encompass much of eastern Sumatra as it brought various communities under its control through warfare and control of trade between the interior of Sumatra and the Melaka Straits. The Dutch colonial state signed a series of treaties with Siak rulers in the 19th century, which reduced the area of state influence to the Siak River. For the remainder of the Dutch colonial era, it operated as an independent state with Dutch advisors. After Indonesia's Independence was proclaimed on 17 August 1945, the last sultan of Siak declared his kingdom to have joined the Republic of Indonesia.

Syarif Kasim II Sultan of Siak Sri Indrapura

Yang Dipertuan Besar Syarif Kasim Abdul Jalil Saifuddin or Sultan Syarif Kasim II was the 12th and last sultan of the Sultanate of Siak Sri Indrapura. He was crowned as the sultan at the age of 23 succeeding his father Sultan Syarif Hasyim. Sultan Syarif Kasim II was a supporter of the independence struggle in Indonesia. After Indonesia proclaimed independence, he ceded Siak Sultanate to be part of united Indonesia, and he contributed his wealth of 13 million guilders. for a number of republican government causes. Together with the Sultan of Serdang, he also tried to persuade other kings of East Sumatra to join the republic cause.

Cham–Vietnamese War (982)

Champa–Dai Viet War of 982 or Cham–Vietnamese War of 982 was a military expedition launched by Vietnamese King Lê Hoàn of Đại Việt against King Jaya Paramesvaravarman I of Champa in 982. It resulted in the defeat of the Cham forces and the death of Paramesvaravarman I in battle. This marked the beginning of a southward Vietnamese advance against Champa.

Jaya Indravarman II was the king of Champa from 854 to 893 and the founder of Champa's Sixth dynasty. During his reign, relations between Champa and China was restored. Chinese historians begin referring Champa by Chang-cheng or the city of Zen in its Sanskrit form. He founded a new capital, Indrapura in modern-day Quang Nam Province.
