Marta Raquel Hotus Tuki is a Rapa Nui Chilean politician,governor of Easter Island between 12 March 2014, [1] when she was appointed by President of Chile Michelle Bachelet, [2] and 9 September 2015,being succeeded by Melania Hotu. [3] She has also served as municipal councilor on three occasions.
Easter Island is an island and special territory of Chile in the southeastern Pacific Ocean,at the southeasternmost point of the Polynesian Triangle in Oceania. The island is most famous for its nearly 1,000 extant monumental statues,called moai,which were created by the early Rapa Nui people. In 1995,UNESCO named Easter Island a World Heritage Site,with much of the island protected within Rapa Nui National Park.
Verónica Michelle Bachelet Jeria is a Chilean politician who served as United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2018 to 2022. She previously served as President of Chile from 2006 to 2010 and from 2014 to 2018 for the Socialist Party of Chile. She is the first woman to hold the Chilean presidency. After leaving the presidency in 2010 and before becoming eligible for re-election,she was appointed as the first executive director of the newly established United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. Siméon or Timeone Riro ʻa Kāinga Rokoroko He Tau was the last ‘ariki (king) of Rapa Nui from 1892 until his death. He ruled the island during a brief period of indigenous autonomy between Chile's initial annexation in 1888 and the country's reassertion of colonial authority in 1896. Riro died unexpectedly during a diplomatic trip to Chile to discuss the island's sovereignty with colonial authorities,leading to suspicions that he had been poisoned.
