Martha Ehlin

Martha Elisabeth Ehlin (29 August 1977 – 19 March 2016) was a Swedish sports teacher and founder of the organisation MOD – Mer organdonation. [1] At the age of thirty she got a cancer diagnosis and was saved by an organ transplant in which she received five new organs. After this incident, Ehlin founded MOD – Mer organdonation together with Peter Carstedt. [1] At the World Transplant Games 2011, an athletic competition for people with transplants, she won five gold medals when the competitions were held in Gothenburg. [2]

Cancer disease of uncontrolled, unregulated and abnormal cell growth

Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. These contrast with benign tumors, which do not spread. Possible signs and symptoms include a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged cough, unexplained weight loss and a change in bowel movements. While these symptoms may indicate cancer, they can also have other causes. Over 100 types of cancers affect humans.

She became known to the Swedish audience when she hosted an episode of Sommar i P1 at Sveriges Radio on 17 July 2013. [2] She was awarded the Årets kämpe (Fighter of the year) at the Svenska hjältar (Swedish heroes) gala which was broadcast on TV4 on 20 December 2013. [3]

Sveriges Radio Swedish government-operated radio broadcaster

Sveriges Radio AB is Sweden's national publicly funded radio broadcaster. Sveriges Radio is a public limited company, owned by an independent foundation, previously funded through a licensing fee, the level of which is decided by the Swedish Riksdag. As of January 1 2019, the funds stem from standard taxation. No advertising is permitted. Its legal status could be described as that of a quasi-autonomous non-governmental organization.

TV4 (Sweden) TV channel in Sweden

TV4 is a Swedish television network owned and operated by the TV4 AB, a subsidiary of the Bonnier Broadcasting Group. It started broadcasting by satellite in 1990 and, since 1992, on the terrestrial network. In 1994, TV4 became the largest channel and remained so for a number of years. The two channels of Sveriges Television (SVT) lost more and more viewers for a couple of years. After making schedule changes in 2001, SVT1 had practically the same numbers of viewers as TV4. Since 2004 the TV4 Group has been a fully active member of the European Broadcasting Union.

She died of cancer on 19 March 2016. [1]
