Martin James Smith (born October 1963 [1] ) is a British political activist, and a former National Secretary of the Socialist Workers Party (SWP); a position he held from 2004 until January 2011. [2] He is reported to have left the SWP in 2013, following accusations of the rape of a much younger female member of the party. [3]
Smith joined the SWP in the 1980s and eventually become a member of the Central Committee. He was involved in disrupting talks at Acas in May 2010 between British Airways and the Unite trade union, an action that he defended on Channel 4 News . [4] He has also been involved at a senior level in Unite Against Fascism and Love Music Hate Racism. [5] [6] [7] In September 2010, he was convicted of an assault on a police officer during the protest in October 2009 against British National Party leader Nick Griffin's appearance on Question Time. He was sentenced to a 12-month community order. [8]
Smith is a former director of Sherborne Publications Limited, [1] the company that publishes the Socialist Worker , and of Love Music Hate Racism. [9] At the National Conference in January 2011, he left the post of National Secretary of the SWP in favour of Charlie Kimber, [2] who remains in this position.
Smith has been named as "Comrade Delta", accused of sexual assault and rape of women who were members of the SWP. [10] [11] [12] According to Alex Callinicos and Dave Renton, disagreement within the party following this incident led to the resignation of 700 SWP members. [13] [12]

Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) is a music-oriented antiracism campaign based in Britain. The campaign aims to bring people together and promote unity through the power of music. LMHR was born in the tradition of the Rock Against Racism (RAR) movement of the late 1970s. The campaign held many successful festivals in the early 2000s such as a Victoria Park carnival and at Stoke Britannia Stadium, at which tens of thousands of people attended and international artists performed.

The International Socialist Organization (ISO) was a Trotskyist group active primarily on college campuses in the United States that was founded in 1976 and dissolved in 2019. The organization held Leninist positions on imperialism and the role of a vanguard party. However, it did not believe that necessary conditions for a revolutionary party in the United States were met; ISO believed that it was preparing the ground for such a party. The organization held a Trotskyist critique of nominally socialist states, which it considered class societies. In contrast, the organization advocated the tradition of "socialism from below." as articulated by Hal Draper. Initially founded as a section of the International Socialist Tendency (IST), it was strongly influenced by the perspectives of Draper and Tony Cliff of the British Socialist Workers Party. It broke from the IST in 2001, but continued to exist as an independent organization for the next eighteen years. The organization advocated independence from the U.S. two-party system and sometimes supported electoral strategies by outside parties, especially the Green Party of the United States.
