Martin Wangler (born 11 July 1969) is a German actor and cabaret artist who became primarily known through his role as Bernd Clemens in the SWR series Die Fallers and through his cabaret character, Fidelius Waldvogel.

Martin Wangler was born on 11 July 1969 in Freiburg im Breisgau in southwest Germany. He lives with his family in Breitnau, where he attended primary and secondary school until 1984. This was followed by training as a carpenter. From 1991 to 1994 Wangler completed his secondary education at Abitur level. In 1995, he began his acting training at the Mozarteum college in Salzburg, Austria, whence he graduated in 1999 with a magister artium . This was followed by engagements at the Salzburg Festival, at the Tyrolean State Theatre in Innsbruck, at the Oldenburg State Theatre and until 2003 at the Ingolstadt Municipal Theatre. [1]
Wangler has been a freelance actor, cabaret artist and musician since 2005. In his evening programmes, which appeared from 2005, he portrays a character from the Black Forest, Fidelius Waldvogel. Since 2016, he has toured for around three weeks each summer with his Fidelius Waldvogel - Heimat.tour with a vintage tractor and an original travelling stage across the Black Forest. [2] Wangler has also played the role of Bernd Clemens in the SWR Black Forest series The Fallers . He also appears in various film projects and in guest roles such as in Tatort ("Crime Scene").
Since 2009, Wangler has been artistic director of the High Black Forest Cabaret Festival. [3] He is the initiator and main participant for the preservation and dissemination of the Baden card game Cego, for which he gives annual Cego courses at the Adult Education Centre in the Black Forest. From 2003 to 2014 he worked as a role player at the Audi Academy in Ingolstadt and is also a narrator on SWR radio.
In his cabaret programmes, Martin Wangler always appears in his dialect character, Fidelius Waldvogel. Fidelius Waldvogel is a down-to-earth native of the Black Forest: farmer, poacher and outdoorsman, who deals musically and poetically with various themes from his life.
Wangler works with the dialect rock group LUDDI (Mundartrocker trifft Stubenhocker) and with Swabian cabaret artiste, Heike Sauer, alias "Marlies Blume" (Baden trifft Schwaben and others). [4]
Wangler is a keen player of the Black Forest Tarot card game, Cego, a game threatened by extinction, but which is experiencing a revival. Wangler, a resident of Breitnau in the Black Forest, is part of a project to actively promote the game with live and online courses. [9] [10]

Breitnau is a municipality in the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany, about 30 kilometres from the city of Freiburg im Breisgau. It is located within the High Black Forest.
Meßstetten is a town in the Zollernalbkreis district, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, which is situated in the Swabian Jura, 24 km southeast of Balingen. At an altitude of 907 m (2,976 ft), Meßstetten is the highest city in Germany. It is close to the Heuberg Training Area with the Lager Heuberg. Within the Heuberg Training Area there is the legendary Dreibannmarke, also called the "Bahn", a 17th-century border, which today marks the border between three different municipalities, formerly in the three states of Württemberg, Baden, and Hohenzollern. The meadow at the Dreibannmarke served as a stopping place for traveling merchants, wagons and craftsmen. With care it is possible to identify traces of the border. After the inauguration of the firing ranges, a meadow in Meßstetten was allocated as a camping site at the edge of the restricted area. Until 1835 merchandise was smuggled over the customs borders guarded by local hunters. Coffee smuggler Haux had was killed on 21 July 1831 in Pfaffental. Between 1934 and 1942, many men were sterilized because of "hereditary diseases". Under the program known as Aktion T4, the Nazis murdered mentally handicapped and mentally ill patients. These men and women were deported to the Grafeneck Killing Facility, where they were killed as "life unworthy of life". After the closure of Grafeneck in December 1940, a further deportation to the Hadamar Killing Facility occurred on 1941. After war a new city called Ostlandsiedlung was built.
Cego is a Tarot card game for three or four players played mainly in and around the Black Forest region of Germany. It was probably derived from the three-player Badenese game of Dreierles when soldiers deployed from the Iberian Peninsula during the Napoleonic Wars and, based on a Spanish game they had encountered, introduced Cego's distinctive feature: a concealed hand, or blind. Cego has experienced a revival in recent years, being seen as part of the culture of the Black Forest and surrounding region. It has been called the national game of Baden and described as a "family classic".
Blauen or Hochblauen is a 1,165-metre-high (3,820 ft) mountain in the southern Black Forest. The peak lies within the municipalities of Schliengen and Malsburg-Marzell in Landkreis Lörrach and the community of Badenweiler in Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald. Dreierles is a three-handed, trick-taking Tarot card game that is popular in the German region of central Baden. It is very old and appears to be a south German cousin of Tapp Tarock, the oldest known 54-card Tarot game. Dreierles is played with Cego cards - the only surviving German Tarot cards still produced. German soldiers fighting with Napoleon almost certainly introduced a Spanish modification to Dreierles that produced Baden's national game of Cego. Its relative simplicity makes it a good introduction to games of the central European Tarot family, usually called Tarock games.

The drag queen's persona appears in numerous roles, including an entertainer, a moderator, a singer of popular show tunes, an activist for numerous issues, an author, and a tour guide for the city of Freiburg. In 2019, Betty was named as one of the nine official city ambassadors for the celebration of Freiburg's 900-year centennial celebration, standing as the ambassador of diversity.
