Marvin Anthony Johnson (born 29 October 1968) is an English former professional footballer who spent his entire career at Luton Town, playing as a defender.

Playing career

Johnson signed professional terms with Luton Town on 12 November 1986 as an 18-year-old centre back who could also play as either a full back or midfielder. Johnson made his league debut for Luton on 5 March 1988, in a 2–0 loss against Wimbledon. [1] His career spanned 16 years across the top four league divisions of England, experiencing three relegations and a promotion. Appointed as club captain during 1995–96, Johnson made a total of 440 appearances for Luton, 373 of which came in the league. Towards the end of his career Johnson was plagued by injuries, and he officially retired from playing in 2003. [2] [3]

Coaching career

In 2002, with Johnson still registered as a player, he was appointed as assistant to youth team manager John Moore. A year later and with Johnson now retired, Moore moved on and Johnson became youth team manager himself, a position he retained until he was released from his contract by Kevin Blackwell in June 2007. During his tenure, he oversaw the development of players such as Curtis Davies, Leon Barnett and Kevin Foley, who have all since played in the Premier League.

Johnson spent the 2008–09 season as manager of non-league side St Neots Town, though he left the club after a 17th-placed finish in the United Counties Football League Premier Division. [2] [3] [4]

On 20 December 2009, Johnson was appointed as the assistant manager of Conference National side Kettering Town. [5]

Johnson is currently the Director of Coaching at Virginia Revolution Soccer Club [6] and holds a UEFA 'A' license and a UEFA Coaching Level 'B' license.

Luton Town Football Club is an English professional football club based in the town of Luton, Bedfordshire. Rising back to the top flight of English football for a season in 1974–1975, the remainder of the decade was spent in the second tier. David Pleat's appointment as manager in 1978 prompted the development of a strong team that won promotion after the 1981–1982 season; Pleat consolidated Luton's position in the top tier before leaving in 1986. The 1987–88 season was the 103rd season in the history of Luton Town Football Club. It was Luton Town's 68th consecutive season in the Football League, and their 71st overall. It was also their sixth successive season in the First Division, and their 12th overall. The season is one of the club's most successful of all time, as Luton Town achieved a ninth-place finish in the league, won the Football League Cup, and reached the FA Cup semi-final and Full Members' Cup final. As League Cup winners, they would normally have qualified for the UEFA Cup, but were denied a first foray into European competition due to the ban on English clubs as a result of the 1985 Heysel disaster continuing for a fourth season.

The 1991–92 season was the 106th season in the history of Luton Town Football Club. It was Luton Town's 71st consecutive season in the Football League, and their 74th overall. It was also their tenth successive season in the First Division, and their 16th overall. Luton Town were relegated on the season's final day, and thus condemned to second-tier football for the following season. This deprived them of a place in the new FA Premier League.

David John Pleat is an English football player turned manager, and sports commentator. Pleat made 185 Football League appearances for five clubs, scoring 26 goals. He had two spells as manager of Luton Town, and four as manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

Jeffrey Reginald Wood is an English former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He is currently the head of coaching for Europa, and was also goalkeeping coach for the Wales U19 and Wales U21 teams.
