Mary Barry (born May 5, 1955) is a Canadian singer and songwriter. [1] She sings in English, French and German. [2] [3] She was born in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador and is one of five children to parents Patrick Barry and Teresa Barry. She attended high school at Holy Heart before studying Languages and French Literature at Memorial University. In 1982, she graduated from Vancouver Community College's Jazz and Commercial Music program.

In 2004, Barry released "These Days", for which she garnered Female Artist of the Year Award at the Music Industry Association of Newfoundland & Labrador Awards. The album, produced by Vancouver stalwart Rick Kilburn, arranged by Miles Black, and recorded with Jesse Zubot, Graham Ord and Craig Scott, also features five award-winning songs, and received an ECMA nomination for Jazz Recording of the Year. She performed with singer Holly Hogan in 2007 at the Writers at Woody Point Festival in Gros Morne National Park. [4] Mark Peddle played both electric and acoustic bass guitar on Barry's 2007 album Red Eye Tonight. [5] The album, also nominated for ECMA Jazz Recording of the Year, was her second. [6] She won two awards at the 2007 MusicNL awards: Female Artist of the Year and Jazz and Blues Artist of the Year. [7] She also performed at the corresponding awards show that year. [8] In 2008, she performed at the launch of a literary salon at Water Street's Coffee and Company. [9] She was again nominated for the title of Female Artist of the Year at the 2010 MusicNL awards. The other nominees were Kellie Loder, Teresa Ennis, Irene Bridger, and Amelia Curran. [10] On January 23, 2010, Barry performed at a concert in support of relief efforts after the 2010 Haiti earthquake. [11] In February, 2010, she performed at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, [12] after releasing her first full length recording in French, "Chansons Irisées", [13] also nominated for 2011 ECMA Francophone Recording of the Year. On November 22, 2013, Mary Barry released "Legendary", which was nominated for Jazz Recording of the Year at the 2014 Music NL Awards. [14]

In November 2015, Barry announced that she had pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive lung disease, for which she travelled to Germany for treatment. [15] Despite this prognosis she continues to write and perform, and in September 2017, Mary Barry was inducted into the Wreckhouse Jazz and Blues Hall of Fame. [16] Mary is currently in pre-production for the upcoming release of her sixth independent recording in 2021 featuring the Atlantic String Quartet.

RobertHallett is a Canadian musician, author, producer, and entrepreneur, best known as a founding member of the Canadian folk rock band Great Big Sea (1993–2013). He is also a native of St. John's, Newfoundland, Hallett co-founded Great Big Sea in 1993, with Alan Doyle, Sean McCann, and Darrell Power. The band sold over a million and half records around the world, over a twenty-year period. Through his company, Kilbride Music, Hallett has managed bands and produced records, radio specials, and live concerts. Hallet is a vocal proponent of talent development within the Newfoundland and East Coast Music Industries, and has authored a career guidebook for aspiring musicians. He works with the producers of the Broadway musical Come From Away as a Music Consultant, and has also worked at the Stratford Festival as a Composer & Music Director. As an author he has written dozens of magazine articles, essays and several books, including the best-selling memoir Writing Out The Notes. He is the owner of Erin's Pub and Tavola Restaurant in downtown St. John's. Hallett currently plays accordion and other instruments in the band Kelly Russell and the Planks; he has also been associated with The Once, The Dardanelles, Fabian James, and the Irish Descendants, in various capacities.

Kellie Loder is an independent singer-songwriter from Newfoundland who plays drums, guitar and piano. They have released three albums: The Way in 2009, Imperfections & Directions in 2010 and Benefit of the Doubt in 2018. With a voice that St. John's-based newspaper The Telegram has described as "powerful yet serene and soulful", they received critical recognition from Canada, including a nomination at the Juno Awards.

MusicNL is a trade association for the music industry for the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Kevin Kelly, a former MusicNL board member, was named Media Person of the Year by the organization several times. The 2006 MusicNL awards were presented in Stephenville. Danny Williams, the province's premier, presented the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2007 MusicNL awards gala. In 2008, the MusicNL awards gala was held in Gander.

Mark Peddle is a musician from downtown St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He played both electric and acoustic bass guitar on Mary Barry's 2007 album Red Eye Tonight. He also appeared as a guest performer on the album People Get Ready by Kelly-Ann Evans and Janet Cull in 2008. He performed bass as backup for the Ladies of Jazz in 2008 and again in 2009. In 2009, Peddle met with Contemporary Christian musician Kellie Loder to help her with her second album, Imperfections & Directions. In 2011, Peddle performed at the concert The Show Must Go On: The Music of Queen at Newfoundland's Garrick Theatre. Peddle is the drummer for the band Drenalin. He is also a member of the band Bill Brennan and the Banda Brazil. Peddle has been photographed by Bud Gaulton.

Irene Bridger is a gospel musician from Twillingate, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. She has worked with audio engineer Dean Stairs. A Heart Full of Love was her first album. In 2005, she released her second album, You. The title track from this album was written by Ada Jenkins, a friend of Bridger. Bridger's album Living Prayer was nominated in the Inspirational Album of the Year category at the 2007 Covenant Awards. She was featured on Hope in the Midst of a Storm, a 2008 album produced in support of the Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre. Also in 2008, she performed at Gander Pentecostal Church as part of MusicNL's annual awards and conference. She was nominated for the title of Female Artist of the Year at the 2010 MusicNL awards. The other nominees were Mary Barry, Teresa Ennis, Kellie Loder, and Amelia Curran. In 2012, Bridger released Coming Home, an EP inspired by the music of Newfoundland and Labrador. Despite never having fully written a song herself before, she wrote all of the songs on this album herself.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Alliance was a political party in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The party was created by former PC Party president Graydon Pelley in November 2018, following a split over the direction of the party. It was registered with Elections Newfoundland and Labrador in April 2019. In the 2019 and 2021 provincial elections the party failed to win any seats in the legislature. Pelley resigned from the party in 2023. The party was de-registered on March 30, 2023.

The Fables are a Celtic rock band formed in 1997 in St. John's, Newfoundland, by Glenn Simmons and D'Arcy Broderick. The original lineup of the band consisted of Simmons, Broderick, Billy Sutton, Dave Fitzpatrick, and Clyde Wiseman. In addition to extensive touring, the band released four studio albums from 1998 to 2007.
