Obstetrics and gynaecology is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics and gynecology. The specialization is an important part of care for women's health.
Gynaecology or gynecology is the area of medicine that involves the treatment of women's diseases,especially those of the reproductive organs. It is often paired with the field of obstetrics,forming the combined area of obstetrics and gynaecology (OB-GYN).
Kevin Christopher Kiley is a former lieutenant general in the United States Army who served as the 41st Surgeon General of the United States Army and the commander of the U.S. Army Medical Command,Fort Sam Houston,Texas. He was commander of Walter Reed Army Medical Center and North Atlantic Regional Medical Command twice,from 2002 to 2004,and as acting commander,March 1–2,2007. He submitted his request to retire from the U.S. Army on March 11,2007,in the wake of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center neglect scandal,and was removed from his nominative billet as a lieutenant general. Pending retirement,he was assigned to a temporary billet at the General Officer Management Office at the Pentagon in the grade major general. His retirement in the grade of major general was subsequently approved.
Reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) is a surgical subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology that trains physicians in reproductive medicine addressing hormonal functioning as it pertains to reproduction as well as the issue of infertility. While most REI specialists primarily focus on the treatment of infertility,reproductive endocrinologists are trained to also test and treat hormonal dysfunctions in females and males outside infertility. Reproductive endocrinologists have specialty training (residency) in obstetrics and gynecology (ob-gyn) before they undergo sub-specialty training (fellowship) in REI.

Barton Cooke Hirst was an American obstetrician known for founding University of Pennsylvania's Maternity Hospital in 1892. Hirst was the chair Department of Obstetrics for 38 years until it merged with the Department of Gynecology in 1927 and he retired. He was considered an international authority on obstetrics during his lifetime and was one of the founders of the American College of Surgeons as well as the President of The Obstetrical Society of Philadelphia from 1893 to 1894.
Genevieve Scott Neal-Perry is an American reproductive endocrinologist. She is the Robert A. Ross Distinguished Professor and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the UNC School of Medicine.

In 2021,she was recognized as a "Giant in Obstetrics and Gynecology" by the American Journal of Obstetrics &Gynecology.
