Mary H. Ellis

Mary H. Ellis is an American production sound mixer. She has been nominated twice for an Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing (for First Man in 2019 and Baby Driver in 2018). Both films also received nominations for the BAFTA Award for Best Sound. Mary is the second female production mixer to be nominated for an Academy Award.

Life/Education

Ellis studied at the University of Alabama with a degree in Film and Television. [1] Ellis is from Atlanta. She said of working on Baby Driver, “Being an Atlanta local, I grew up in this industry with most of the crew on this show, so there is a lot of respectful assistance.” [2]

Career

Her first big break was working on Fried Green Tomatoes. [3]

Awards

She won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Single-Camera Sound Mixing for a Miniseries or a Movie for her work Warm Springs in 2005. She was nominated for an Emmy Award for her work on Andersonville in 1996. Mary has also been nominated for four Cinema Audio Society Awards.

Ellis was named to the Cinema Audio Society Board of Directors in 2019. [4]

Kevin O'Connell is a sound re-recording mixer. He held the record for most Academy Award nominations without a win at 20, until he finally won his first Academy Award for Hacksaw Ridge (2016) at the 89th Academy Awards in 2017.

Michael Minkler is a motion picture sound re-recording mixer. He has received Academy Awards for his work on Dreamgirls, Chicago and Black Hawk Down. His varied career has also included films like Inglourious Basterds, JFK and Star Wars, as well as television programs like The Pacific and John Adams. Minkler works at Todd-AO Hollywood. He is also the Managing Director of Moving Pictures Media Group, a company that specializes in film development, packaging projects for production funding acquisition.

Michael J. Kohut was an American audio engineer. He was a seven-time Academy Award nominee for Best Sound, a BAFTA award winner for Best Sound for Fame and was President of Post Production Facilities at Sony Pictures Studios. During his tenure at Sony Pictures Studios, he led the American team in the development of Sony Dynamic Digital Sound the discrete eight-channel playback system for motion picture sound.

With her nomination for the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing, she and her sound editing partner for the film Mildred Iatrou Morgan became the first female team to be nominated in the category.

Steven "Steve" A. Morrow is an American production sound mixer. Morrow has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Sound or Best Achievement in Sound Mixing a total of three times for his work on La La Land, A Star is Born, and Ford v Ferrari. Peter Grace is an Australian production sound mixer. He is best known for his work on critically acclaimed war-drama film Hacksaw Ridge (2016) for which he received the Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing at the 89th Academy Awards, sharing with Robert Mackenzie, Kevin O'Connell and Andy Wright.

Thomas Vicari is an American recording engineer, mixing engineer, record producer and scoring mixer known for his work with Quincy Jones, Gino Vannelli, Nicholas Britell, Thomas Newman, Prince, George Duke and Barbra Streisand. He was the sound mixer for TV shows and films including Six Feet Under, The Newsroom, Behind the Candelabra, Phantom of the Paradise, Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, Wall-E and Road to Perdition.

Tim Cavagin is a British sound engineer. He won an Academy Award and was nominated for one more in the category Best Sound for the films Baby Driver and Bohemian Rhapsody.

The Cinema Audio Society Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for Television Non Fiction, Variety or Music – Series or Specials is an annual award given by the Cinema Audio Society to sound mixers for their outstanding achievements in sound mixing for non fiction, variety or music series/specials television productions.
