Mary Jane & Black Cat is a comic book series written by Jed MacKay, starring the popular Spider-Man love interests Felicia Hardy / Black Cat and Mary Jane Watson. Initially published as a one-shot in 2022 as a tie-in to the The Amazing Spider-Man storyline "Spider-Man Beyond", from the creative team of the 2019–2020 and 2020–2021 Black Cat runs and Iron Cat (2022), the first story, Mary Jane & Black Cat: Beyond , follows Mary Jane as she must temporarily claim the identity of the Black Cat herself to save a kidnapped Felicia. The one-shot's success led to Marvel Comics ordering a five-issue ongoing series as another tie-in with the following event Dark Web , titled Mary Jane & Black Cat: Dark Web , as Mary Jane and Felicia are thrown into Hell, Felicia keeps quiet about getting back with Peter Parker / Spider-Man, while Mary Jane receives and hides superpowers as Jackpot, finding themselves at the mercy of Belasco lest they come clean to one another.

Contents

The series received a generally positive critical reception, with a scene about the titular duo's "dump truck ass"es becoming an internet meme. The series was relaunched with a new creative team as Jackpot & Black Cat as a tie-in with Gang War in 2024. [2]

Plot summary

Beyond

Felicia Hardy / Black Cat and Mary Jane Watson, eternal rivals for the affections of Peter Parker / Spider-Man, must set their differences aside once again as Peter is recovering from an accident that landed him in the hospital. After Felicia is kidnapped and Peter is unable to help, Mary Jane must temporarily claim the identity of the Black Cat herself to save her. [3] While bonding, Mary Jane reveals to Felicia that while Felicia may see herself as the "bad girl" to Mary Jane's "good girl", Mary Jane herself was once known as the "bad girl" compared to Gwen Stacy, Peter's first true love. Additionally, after Mary Jane and Felicia end up in a room with an awakening Peter while both wearing Felicia's Black Cat suit, Peter is revealed to regularly have dreams of threesomes involving exactly such a scenario. Dark Web

As Mary Jane and Felicia are trapped in Hell, Felicia keeping quiet about getting back with Peter Parker / Spider-Man, and Mary Jane keeping quiet about receiving superpowers as Jackpot, the dazzling duo soon finds themselves at the mercy of the demon Belasco: if they don't come clean with one another soon, they could be stuck there forever, since Felicia's guilty conscience plays havoc with her plan to escape. Additionally, the Black Cat seeks out the ultimate score: Doctor Doom's mask. [9] [10]
