Mary Lanigan is a British independent politician who was the leader of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council from February 2015 until May 2015 [1] and again from May 2019 [2] until May 2023. [3]
Lanigan was first elected as councillor for the Loftus in 2002 after being elected unopposed, [2] a position which she held until her defeat in the 2023 Local Elections. During her time as a councillor,Lanigan also served as a member of the council's Regulatory Committee and its Executive Scrutiny Board,as well as Cabinet Member for Highways,Transportation and Planning. [2]
In March 2023 She was formally censured after breaching Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's code of conduct. [4] She lost her seat in the subsequent election,after Labour gained one of the three Loftus seats. [5]

Redcar and Cleveland is a local government district with borough status in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, England. Its council has been a unitary authority since 1996, being a district council which also performs the functions of a county council.

Jacob Young is a British Conservative Party politician serving as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Levelling Up since 18 September 2023. He previously served as Assistant Government Whip between September 2022 and September 2023. He was elected as MP for Redcar at the 2019 general election. He is the first Conservative MP to represent the constituency.
