Mary B. Verner (born August 13,1956) is an American politician who served as the 42nd Mayor of Spokane,Washington from 2007 to 2011.
Originally from Fitzgerald,Georgia,Verner received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from Davidson College,earned her Master of Arts degree in environmental management from Yale University,and a Juris Doctor degree from Gonzaga University School of Law.
She has served as Executive Director of the Upper Columbia United Tribes. [1] She was the third woman to become mayor of Spokane and the first woman since a mayor–council government program was instituted in the place of a previous council–manager government system. [ citation needed ]
Verner served on the City Council for four years before becoming mayor. Originally appointed to the council,Verner was subsequently elected to the position from which she ran for Mayor against an incumbent,Dennis Hession in 2007. Verner won with 53% of the vote,becoming Spokane's 43rd mayor on November 27,2007. She was the city's fifth mayor in eight years.[ citation needed ]
Verner was defeated for reelection in the 2011 Spokane mayoral election.

John Vincent "Jack" Geraghty,Jr. is an Irish American civic politician,journalist,and public relations consultant from Spokane,Washington. In 1964,he was elected to the Spokane County Board of Commissioners,while simultaneously serving in the Air National Guard and working as a staff journalist with the Spokane Daily Chronicle. He resigned as County Commissioner in 1971,when the City of Spokane began preparing to host the 1974 World's Fair. While he was initially named as the Director of Public Relations,he was later appointed to serve as the Vice President of Exhibitor and Guest Relations. At that time,he established the public relations consulting firm of Jack Geraghty and Associates. In 1975,he founded the short-lived weekly newspaper,known as The Falls. In 1992,he was elected as the 39th mayor of the city,serving from 1993 to 1998. In 2011,he was honored as a member of the University of Washington Department of Communication's Alumni Hall of Fame.
