This is the progression of world record improvements of the 10000 metres M35 division of Masters athletics.

Masters athletics is a class of the sport of athletics for veteran athletes in the events of track and field, road running and cross country running. The competitions feature five-year age groups beginning at age 35. Men as old as 105 and women in their 100s have competed in running, jumping and throwing events. Masters are sometimes known as veterans.

Robert ("Robbie") Ian Johnston is a former long-distance runner from New Zealand who competed twice at the Summer Olympic Games and once at the Commonwealth Games. At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona he was ninth in his heat of the 5000m and did not advance to the final. At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta he was 12th in his heat of the 10000m and did not advance to the final. At the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Vancouver he did not finish the 10000m.

The competition is organised by the European Athletics Association and first began as the European 10000 Metres Challenge, after the event was removed from the European Cup programme. The competition has roots in the Iberian 10,000 metres Championships – a competition between Spanish and Portuguese athletes that was held between 1991 and 1996 – and the first five editions of the European 10000 Metres Challenge were held in the Iberian Peninsula. The event was first held under its current title in 2005.
