John T. Mather Memorial Hospital is a general hospital located in Port Jefferson, New York. It is named after John T. Mather (1854-1928), an American philanthropist and business man from Port Jefferson. As early as 1916 Mather had made provisions and funds to create the hospital in his will. John T. Mather opened its doors on December 29th, 1929. A New surgical suite a new emergency facility and a new intensive care unit was added in 1962, a new psychiatric wing was added in 1973. A new wing and renovation in 1983. And the current emergency room called the Contessa Nadia Farber Emergency Pavillion was added in 1990. In 1992 the hospital added which would later be renamed the Frey Family Foundation Medical Arts Building. The Building is currently the Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, an infusion center and administrative offices. By 1997 it reached its current bed count of 248. In 1998 the hospital opened which was renamed in 2001 The Matthew J. and Debra A. Cody Ambulatory and Inpatient Surgical Pavilion. In 2013, Mather was designated a Magnet® Recognized hospital.In December 2017, Mather became affiliated with Northwell Health.
