Matt Kelly is an American musician from Leominster, Massachusetts. He has been the drummer for the Boston Celtic punk group Dropkick Murphys since May 1997. [1] [2] [3] Kelly also sings background vocals for the band and has not missed playing a show with the band for 22 years as of 2019. [3]
Matt's Kelly's drum kit consists of an 8x12 rack, a 14x14, 16x16 floors, and a 20x22 kick. He mostly uses a 6.5x14 snare. [2] His kit is emerald green acrylic, with custom wood badges with Celtic symbols on "claw style wood hoops". [2] Kelly calls these drums "my green precious emeralds." [3] He uses a DW 5000 kick pedal, and Zildjian cymbals. [3]
Kelly has been influenced by rock drummers such as John Bonham, Phil Rudd, and Ian Paice, and also jazz musicians like Art Blakey, Joe Morello, Max Roach, and Philly Joe Jones. [3]
Kelly was born in Leominster, Massachusetts, one of three children. [4] His father, Ed, was also a drummer and played for the Psych/Garage band Pugsley Munion. [2] Kelly took six years of drumming lessons starting when he was eight years old, with Don Kirby at the Music Box in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. [2] [5] He has been married to his wife Liz since 2007. The Gang's All Here is the second studio album by the American Celtic punk band the Dropkick Murphys. It is their first album with Al Barr, who replaced founding singer Mike McColgan in 1998. "10 Years of Service" was the album's only single; the music video received some minor airplay on MTV's 120 Minutes, a first for the band.
Singles Collection Volume 2 is a b-side and rarities compilation album released by Boston punk rock band Dropkick Murphys, on March 8, 2005. The album, which peaked at No. 26 and spent three weeks on the chart, contains songs released on singles, compilations and splits. Among the songs, two are alternate versions of songs previously released on Dropkick Murphys albums, five songs were written by the band and the rest were covers. Szeliga looks up to Vinnie Colaiuta, John Bonham, Steve Gadd, Dennis Chambers, Tony Williams, Manu Katche, Stewart Copeland and Neil Peart as his main influences.
Javier Andrés Weyler is an Argentine-born Venezuelan-English drummer, best known as a member of Stereophonics from 2004 to 2012. He was the drummer in the Venezuelan band Claroscuro for over nine years until he left the country in 2001 to study audio engineering in London. Kenneth William Casey Jr. is an American musician who is a bass guitarist, primary songwriter, and one of the lead singers of the Boston Celtic punk group the Dropkick Murphys. Casey was one of the original members, starting the band in 1996 with guitarist Rick Barton and singer Mike McColgan. He is the only original member of the Dropkick Murphys left in the band, though drummer Matt Kelly joined shortly after formation in 1997. He is known for his melodic vocal parts and solid punk rock bass playing. Dropkick Murphys released their tenth album Turn Up That Dial on April 30, 2021. Casey also founded the charity group The Claddagh Fund, owns two Boston restaurants, McGreevy's and Yellow Door Taqueria, and runs his own boxing promotion called Murphys Boxing. Casey has a small role in the 2016 film Patriots Day, about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and the subsequent terrorist manhunt.
