Maurice Lennon

Maurice Lennon is an Irish fiddle player and composer. He grew up in a very musical family, the son of the late fiddle player Ben Lennon and nephew of composer, fiddle player and pianist Charlie Lennon. [1] [2]

He won the senior All-Ireland fiddle title aged 17. [3]

Professionally, he first came to prominence in the popular 1980's band Stockton's Wing for whom he was fiddle player and a composer of some of their popular tunes, including The Golden Stud. [4] [5]

He received Freedom of County Clare with his Stockton's Wing bandmates in 2017. [6]

He was honored as 2011 iBAM Musician of the Year by the Irish American Heritage Centre. [7]

His credentials as a composer were solidified with his 2001 suite Brian Boru The High King of Tara, released by Tara Records. [8] The album was produced by Donal Lunny and includes contributions from Mairtin O'Connor, Anthony Drennan and Mick O'Brien.

In 2013 he released his first solo fiddle album The Little Ones, which contains several of his compositions. [9]

He has lived in Chicago for many years and a benefit concert was held for him at Chicago's Irish American Heritage Center in 2012. [10]

In 2023 he received the TG4 Gradam Ceoil Award for composition [11]

The result, "Riverdance", was a seven-minute piece of original music accompanying a new take on traditional Irish stepdance that became a full-length stage production and spawned a worldwide craze for Irish traditional music and dance. Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh is an Irish fiddler and the lead vocalist for the Irish folk music band Altan, which she co-founded with her husband Frankie Kennedy in 1987. Ní Mhaonaigh is recognised as a leading exponent in the Donegal fiddle tradition, and she is often considered one of the foremost singers in the Irish language, her native tongue. She was part of the Irish supergroup T with the Maggies who performed in January 2009 at Temple Bar TradFest in Dublin their first ever two concerts under that name and who released in October 2010 their debut album. After nearly 22 years with Altan, on 28 December 2008 Ní Mhaonaigh premiered in Gweedore her debut solo album Imeall which was later released worldwide in February 2009. After 29 years with Altan, in October 2016 Ní Mhaonaigh released her alternate band Na Mooneys' debut album Na Mooneys.

Stockton's Wing are an Irish band formed in 1977 by four All-Ireland champion musicians; Paul Roche on flute/whistle, Maurice Lennon on fiddle, Tommy Hayes on bodhran, and Kieran Hanrahan on banjo/mandolin, along with Tony Callinan on guitar and vocals. They have collaborated with well known artists including Christy Moore, "as well as more than a dozen musicians who have worked to create an impressive collection of work". Their style has been described as including "Irish folk, melancholic ballads, upbeat jigs, and modern pop". Stockton's Wing have supported artists including Michael Jackson and Prince.

Take a Chance is the second album by Irish band Stockton's Wing. It features songwriter Mike Hanrahan on vocals. Mike's own compositions featured on the album were the start of the group's move away from the pure traditional music to a more contemporary style which later became their trademark. Maura O'Connell is also featured on backing vocals.

Aidan Connolly is an Irish fiddler and teacher from Dublin. Connolly is known for his unique style of fiddle playing and is a highly sought-after performer both in Ireland and abroad. He has been described by musician Cormac Begley as "one of the best musicians in his generation" and by others as "a leading fiddle player of the current wave of great Irish Traditional music".

Aoife Mairead O'Brien is an Irish violinist from North Dublin. Her career has traversed numerous musical genres including classical, traditional, jazz and contemporary music. She has been the recipient of numerous awards in both the classical and traditional world, including a Gradam Ceoil TG4 Musical Collaboration Award for her work with the Goodman Trio, and a RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Award for Best Folk Instrumentalist. Aoife has been described as "one of the most versatile musicians of her generation" and "an exceptionally talented and multifaceted violinist".
