Claude Criquielion was a Belgian professional road bicycle racer who raced between 1979 and 1990. In 1984, Criquielion became the world road race champion in Barcelona, Spain on a gruelling course. He had five top-ten finishes in the Tour de France.

Alfa Lum was an Italian professional cycling team that existed from 1982 to 1990. The team is best remembered for introducing many successful riders from the former Soviet Union in 1989 and 1990. The 1990 Giro d'Italia was the 73rd edition of the race. It started off in Bari on May 18 with a 13 km (8.1 mi) individual time trial. The race came to a close with a mass-start stage that began and ended in Milan on June 6. Twenty-two teams entered the race, which was won by the Italian Gianni Bugno of the Château d'Ax–Salotti team. Second and third respectively were the Frenchman Charly Mottet and the Italian rider, Marco Giovannetti. Bugno wore the pink jersey as leader in the general classification from the first to the last stage.
Peter Post was a Dutch professional cyclist whose career lasted from 1956 to 1972. Post competed in road and track racing. As a rider he is best remembered for Six-day racing, having competed in 155 races and won 65. Because of this success he was known as “De Keizer van de Zesdaagse” or “The Emperor of the Six Days”. In road racing his main achievements were winning the 1964 Paris–Roubaix and becoming national road race champion in 1963. He was on the podium three times at the La Flèche Wallonne but never won. Post’s other nickname was “de Lange” or “Big Man” because he was tall for a cyclist. After retiring from racing he had success as a Directeur sportif. Peter Post died in Amstelveen on 14 January 2011.

Alfredo Martini was an Italian cyclist and coach from Sesto Fiorentino, north of Florence. Professional from 1941 to 1957, he won a stage in the 1950 Giro d'Italia and was later the coach of the Italian national team. He also rode in the 1949 Tour de France. In 2021, in honour of Martini's 100th birthday, the one-day race Per sempre Alfredo was first held; the race finishes in Martini's home town of Sesto Fiorentino.

The 1994 Tour of Britain was the eighth edition of the Kellogg's Tour of Britain cycle race and was held from 8 August to 12 August 1994. The race started in Glasgow and finished in Manchester. The race was won by Maurizio Fondriest of the Lampre team.
The 1993 Giro del Trentino was the 17th edition of the Tour of the Alps cycle race and was held on 11 May to 14 May 1993. The race started in Riva del Garda and finished in Arco di Trento. The race was won by Maurizio Fondriest.
