The Victorian Football League (VFL) is the major state-level Australian rules football league in Victoria and, starting from 2021, New South Wales and Queensland. The league evolved from the former Victorian Football Association (VFA), and has been known by its current name since 1996. For historical purposes, the present VFL is referred to as the VFA/VFL, to distinguish it from the present day Australian Football League that was known until 1990 as the Victorian Football League and is referred to as the VFL/AFL.

Darren Glass is a former Australian rules footballer who played as a full-back for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). Originally from Northam, Western Australia, he attended Carine Senior High School before beginning his career with Perth in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). He was later recruited by West Coast with the 11th pick in the 1999 National Draft, making his debut for the club the following season. Glass was named in the All-Australian team on four occasions, including as captain of the 2012 team. He was named captain of West Coast in 2008, after Chris Judd was traded to Carlton, and won club best and fairest awards in 2007, 2009, and 2011. Glass retired from football midway through the 2014 season, having played 270 games for West Coast.
William Maxwell Oppy was an Australian rules football player who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL) between 1942 and 1954 for the Richmond Football Club. He was senior coach of Richmond in 1956.

Knee and hamstring injuries hampered his first four seasons in the AFL before he moved into the number one ruck position at Melbourne in 2015 along with All-Australian selection in 2016. Gawn was named as Melbourne's captain at the start of the 2020 AFL season, and in 2021 led the club to its first premiership since 1964.

The Australian Football League stages the highest-level senior Australian rules football competition in the country.
