Meghan Elizabeth Kallman (born November 18,1983) is an American politician,academic,and activist serving as a member of the Rhode Island Senate from the 15th district. Elected in November 2020,she assumed office on January 5,2021.
Kallman earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Smith College,a Master of Arts from the University of Chicago,and a PhD from Brown University. Kallman's scholarship focuses on development sociology,environmental sociology,and organizational sociology. [1]
Kallman began her career at Amnesty International,and then was a marketing manager for Prize4Life. From 2008 to 2011,she was the research director for Urban Innovation Analysis,a 501(c) organization. From 2014 to 2018,she was an instructor at the Community College of Rhode Island. From 2017 to 2021,she served as a member of the Pawtucket City Council. She is an associate professor at the University of Massachusetts Boston at the graduate School for Global Inclusion and Social Development,and an adjunct professor at Brown University. In 2015,Kallman co-founded Conceivable Future,a nonprofit organization that advocates for climate and reproductive justice. [2] [3]
Kallman was elected to the Rhode Island Senate in November 2020 and assumed office on January 5,2021. [4] She is also vice chair of the Senate Housing and Municipal Government Committee. [5] [6]
An environmentalist is a person who is concerned with and/or advocates for the protection of the environment. An environmentalist can be considered a supporter of the goals of the environmental movement,"a political and ethical movement that seeks to improve and protect the quality of the natural environment through changes to environmentally harmful human activities". A member of the Democratic Party,he served as the United States Attorney for the District of Rhode Island from 1993 to 1998 and as the 71st attorney general of Rhode Island from 1999 to 2003. In 2006,he won his first term to the Senate,defeating Republican incumbent Lincoln Chaffee. Whitehouse was reelected in 2012,2018,and 2024.

Sustainability studies is an academic discipline that focuses on the interdisciplinary perspective of the concept of sustainability. Programs include instruction in sustainable development,geography,environmental policies,ethics,ecology,landscape architecture,city and regional planning,economics,natural resources,sociology,and anthropology. Sustainability studies also focuses on the importance of climate change,poverty,social justice and environmental justice. More recently,many studies have explored a certain blending of theories to address sustainability issues. Among these concepts,the definition of social learning for sustainability stands out. Many universities across the world currently offer sustainability studies as a degree program. The main goal of sustainability studies is for students to find ways to develop novel solutions to environmental problems.
Dorceta E. Taylor is an American environmental sociologist known for her work on both environmental justice and racism in the environmental movement. She is the senior associate dean of diversity,equity,and inclusion at Yale School of the Environment,as well as a professor of environmental justice. Prior to this,she was the director of diversity,equity,and inclusion at the University of Michigan's School of Environment and Sustainability (SEAS),where she also served as the James E. Crowfoot Collegiate Professor of Environmental Justice. Taylor's research has ranged over environmental history,environmental justice,environmental policy,leisure and recreation,gender and development,urban affairs,race relations,collective action and social movements,green jobs,diversity in the environmental field,food insecurity,and urban agriculture.

Feedback from women and the issues faced by women have been described as "imperative" by the United Nations and "critical" by the Population Reference Bureau. A report by the World Health Organization concluded that incorporating gender-based analysis would "provide more effective climate change mitigation and adaptation."
Elizabeth Walbert Crandall was an American academic,home economist,author,environmentalist,women's rights activist,and feminist. During her academic career,she was a professor,department chairman,and dean of the College of Home Economics at the University of Rhode Island,and authored textbooks and articles in the field of home economics. After retirement,she and her husband relocated to Brunswick,Maine,where she became active in environmental and women's causes. She was inducted into the Maine Women's Hall of Fame in 1996.
