Major Nameye Khadija popularly known by his stage name Mejja, is a Kenyan Genge artist. [1] He was signed to Calif Records, where he released multiple collaborations. His single "Jana Kuliendaje" won an award at Kenya's Chaguo la Teeni in 2008. [2]

Career

Mejja began his music career in primary school, performing with his brother Wambugu in a group called Ghetto Clan. [3] He had his first breakthrough in 2008 with the song "Jana Kuliendaje". [2] In 2011, he released the song "Landlord".

In 2014, Mejja formed a group called "The Kansoul" together with Kid Kora and Madtraxx. [4] The group dropped their first song "Dabo Tap" later that year. [5]

Mejja continued to gain popularity through collaborations, including "Cheza Kama Wewe" by Trio Mio [6] and "Utawezana" by Femi One. [7]

In 2021. Mejja was featured in Bensoul hit "Nairobi" [8] alongside Sauti Sol.

Odi pop is a Kenyan music style which involves localized hip hop and draws influences from reggae and Dancehall music to build on an African Rhythm base performed in sing-along rap in heavy Kiswahili/Sheng language. There are several sub-genres stemming from this umbrella term including Gengeton, Dabonge, Debe and others. The music is spearheaded by Kenyan youths and most of them are pursuing their careers as music groups opposed to solo careers.

He released his debut full-length studio album Testimony 1990 in June 2018. Khaligraph Jones has achieved numerous awards during his career. He was nominated for 'Best Male Artist' at the 2018 Afrimma Awards, won 'Best Hip Hop Artist' at the 2020 Afrimma Awards, and was nominated for 'Best International Act' at the 2020 BET Awards.

Mbwana Yusuf Kilungi, better known by his stage name Mbosso Khan is a Tanzanian singer and songwriter born in Kibiti, Pwani Region, he is currently based in Dar es Salaam and signed under WCB Wasafi record label. Mbosso is known for his songs "Nadekezwa" and "Hodari" which won Video of the Year at HiPipo Awards 2019. Mbosso released his debut studio album, Definition of Love, in March 2021.

Janet Achieng Otieno popularly known as Janet Otieno, is a singer and songwriter of gospel music from Kenya. She was the winner of Mwafaka Awards and nominated at Groove Awards for "Collaboration of the year" in 2014 for the song "Napokea Kwako" which featured Christina Shusho from Tanzania.
