Mercia Geises (born c. 1982), is a Namibian, lawyer, banker, businesswoman and corporate executive, who is the managing director and chief executive officer of Standard Bank Namibia Limited, a commercial bank, whose stock trades on the Namibian Stock Exchange and is a member of the Standard Bank Group, headquartered in South Africa. She took up her present appointment on 1 May 2021. [1] [2]

Background and education

Geises obtained a B Juris, from the University of Namibia, a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Master of Laws degree in Mercantile Law, both from the University of the Free State in South Africa. She also holds a Master of Business Administration, awarded by the University of Stellenbosch. [1] [2]

Career

She started her legal career as an associate at Weder, Kruger and Hartmann. She then joined Old Mutual Investment Group Namibia (Pty) Limited where she stayed for 12 years, rising to the rank of CEO. [1] [2] [3] In 2016, Geises joined the Standard Bank of Namibia and for the next five years she served as head of Personal and Business Banking (PBB) at Standard Bank Namibia Holdings Limited and as head of PBB at Standard Bank Namibia Limited. On 1 May 2021, she took over as CEO at Standard Bank Namibia Limited. She replaced Vetumbuavi Mungunda who stepped down and left the bank on 30 April 2021. [1] [2] [4] In her new position, Mercia Geises joins three other women in Namibia, who head commercial banks. As of May 2021, four of the top five commercial banks in Namibia have female Managing Directors. The banks and their managing directors are illustrated in the table below: [5]

Angelika Muharukua Namibian politician

Angelika Kazetjindire Muharukua was a Namibian politician. An ethnic Herero from northwestern Namibia, Muharukua joined the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) in 1979. She was a surprise choice by President Sam Nujoma for the 2nd National Assembly of Namibia in 1995 and remained in the National Assembly since. In May 2004, she was chosen to replace Marlene Mungunda as deputy minister of Women Affairs and Child Welfare, later renamed the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare.

Nashandi was Namibia's ambassador to the United States of America from 2019 to 2020.

Standard Chartered Zambia, officially Standard Chartered Bank Zambia Plc, is a commercial bank in Zambia and a subsidiary of Standard Chartered. It is licensed by the Bank of Zambia, the central bank and national banking regulator.

Harold Pupkewitz was a Lithuanian born, Namibian entrepreneur and member of the President's Economic Advisory Council. He was the Executive Chairman of Pupkewitz Holdings, a group of builders' merchants, car sale businesses, and a host of other enterprises, from its foundation in 1946 until his death. Pupkewitz directed the boards of several important Namibian companies, among them NamPost, NamPower, Telecom Namibia, and MTC Namibia, and served as president of a number of high-profile political and economical institutions.

Anna "Kakurukaze" Mungunda was a Namibian woman of Herero descent. She was the only woman among the casualties of the Old Location uprising in Windhoek on 10 December 1959. Since Namibia's independence on 21 March 1990 Mungunda is regarded one of the heroes of the Namibian nation.

Bank BIC Namibia Limited is a commercial bank in Namibia. It is licensed by the Bank of Namibia, the central bank and national banking regulator. The bank is a subsidiary of the Bank BIC Group, a financial services conglomerate, based in Angola, with banking subsidiaries in Angola, Portugal, Cape Verde and Namibia, with a representative office in South Africa. 

Robert Kabushenga, is a Ugandan lawyer and corporate executive who was the managing director and chief executive officer of the New Vision Group, from January 2007 until January 2021. He currently serves as a non-executive board member of KCB Bank Uganda Limited, a commercial bank, since November 2021.

Chioma Mang, is a Nigerian lawyer and corporate executive, who serves as the managing director and chief executive officer of United Bank for Africa Uganda Limited, effective December 2020. Prior to her current position, she served as the managing director and CEO of United Bank for Africa's subsidiary in Gabon.
