Metalwood is a Canadian jazz band from Toronto, Ontario. [1] [2] the band was active in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and reunited in 2016. [3] The members are saxophonist Mike Murley, pianist/trumpeter Brad Turner, bassist Chris Tarry and drummer Ian Froman. [4] [5]

History

Metalwood was formed in Toronto in 1997. [5] The group signed with Brian Watson's Maximum Music Group. [6]

The members performed together until 2003, and recorded six albums of jazz music. Their first two albums 1997's Metalwood and Metalwood 2 in 1998, each won a Juno Award for best contemporary jazz album.

In 2016, Metalwood reunited, performing in Toronto and recording a new album, Twenty. Later that year the band went on tour to support the album, which won a Juno Award as best group jazz album of the year. [7]

Prairie Oyster was a Canadian country music group from Toronto, Ontario. They were named Country Group or Duo of the year six times by both the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) and the Juno Awards. The band also won the Bud Country Fans' Choice Award from the CCMA in 1994. They have four No. 1 country singles in Canada, with an additional 12 singles reaching the Canadian Country Top 10. Alysha Brilla Canadian musician

Alysha Brilla is a Canadian musician, songwriter and music producer. Brilla’s music career includes performances at WOMAD, Woodford Folk Festival and Montreal Jazz Festival. Her music focuses on themes of connection and healing. Born in Mississauga, Ontario and raised in Brampton, Ontario, she started singing in her early teens in local bands and at festivals. In 2010, she signed a major record deal at Lava Records/Universal Republic. Brilla has since released all of her music independently on her own music label, Sunny Jam Records. Brilla has received three Juno Award nominations for her self-produced albums.

Kirk MacDonald is a Canadian jazz musician and composer. He has been nominated for four Juno Awards, with his album The Atlantic Sessions winning the 1999 Juno Award for Best Mainstream Jazz Album.

Sultans of String are an instrumental music group based in Toronto, Ontario, combining elements of Spanish flamenco, Arabic folk, Cuban rhythms, and French Manouche Gypsy-jazz. The group's leader is producer and Canadian musician Chris McKhool. At the core of Sultans of String's musical vision is the belief that societies derive strength from diversity, and that common ground can be found amidst one's differences.

Chris McKhool is a Canadian violinist, producer, guitarist, composer, and singer-songwriter. He has received numerous awards for his work, including four JUNO Award nominations and four Canadian Folk Music Awards for his various recordings.

Brad Turner is a Canadian jazz trumpeter and pianist. He has won three Juno Awards and six Canadian National Jazz Awards for categories including Jazz Trumpeter of the Year, Jazz Composer of the Year, and Musician of the Year.

Allison Au is a Canadian jazz saxophonist. She has been nominated twice for a Juno Award for best jazz album, winning once.

Harry Vetro Canadian drummer and composer

Harry Vetro is a Canadian drummer and composer. He has recording credits with such Canadian jazz players as Mike Murley, Steve Wallace and Lina Allemano. In January 2020, Harry was the runner-up for the CJSF 90.1 FM 9th Julian Award of Excellence.
