Methodist Homes (MHA) is a leading charity care provider for older people in Great Britain. [2]
Founded in 1943 by the Methodist Church as an independent charity, originally named Methodist Homes for the Aged, MHA is committed to supporting people of all faiths and none. The organisation continues to benefit from strong support from the Methodist community and other Christian denominations. [3]
MHA's mission is to enable people to live later life well by inspiring the best care and wellbeing at every stage of later life. It's values are: We nurture mind, body and spirit; We inspire the best in each other; We respect every person, treating them with dignity. [4]
Headquartered in Derby, MHA operates across England and Wales. It offers a comprehensive range of services including residential, nursing and dementia care homes, [5] retirement living communities [6] and community-based support. [7] The charity also provides a nationwide befriending service [8] to help alleviate the impact of loneliness and isolation for old people.
MHA currently supports more than 17,400 older people through its services, which include:
The charity runs:
These services are delivered by around 7,000 staff and supported by 3,000 volunteers. [1] All donations and surplus income are reinvested into improving and expanding MHA's services to help even more older people.
As part of its commitment to supporting older people and their families, MHA also offers a Later Life Hub, [9] an online knowledge resource providing practical advice and guidance on a range of topics. These include planning for retirement, caring for an ageing parent, and maintaining health and wellbeing.
Since 2018, MHA has been recognised as a Top 20 care home group by carehome.co.uk, [10] reflecting the high levels of trust and satisfaction from residents and their families in MHA's quality of care and support.
MHA is also regarded as a credible voice for older people in society, advocating on issues affecting older people and promoting dignity, respect and quality of life throughout later life.
