Metro Jacksonville was an American news website, blog, and forum focusing on Jacksonville, Florida, U.S. The site offered news, blogs, forums and original content covering urban issues, politics, and culture in the city.

History

Metro Jacksonville was founded by Steve Congro, Dan Herbin, Ennis Davis, Kevin Connor, and Stephen Dare. [1] The site launched on March 13, 2006 as a weblog with the intention to educate the public on issues that matter to cities. The site provides members a platform for discussion on topics concerning urban core, transit-oriented development, municipal policy, and politics in Jacksonville and the Northeast Florida region. [2]

Awards

First Coast American Planning Association gave Metro Jacksonville its Excellence in Media Award in 2008. [3] The Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association recognized the publication with its 2009 Outstanding Public Interest Group Award. [2] In 2010, local alternative weekly Folio Weekly named Metro Jacksonville "Best Political Blog". [4]

Jacksonville is the most populous city in Florida, and is the largest city by area in the contiguous United States as of 2020. It is the seat of Duval County, with which the city government consolidated in 1968. Consolidation gave Jacksonville its great size and placed most of its metropolitan population within the city limits. WJXT, virtual channel 4, is an independent television station licensed to Jacksonville, Florida, United States. The station is owned by the Chicago-based Graham Media Group subsidiary of Graham Holdings Company, as part of a duopoly with CW affiliate WCWJ. The two stations share studios at 4 Broadcast Place on the south bank of the St. Johns River in Jacksonville; WJXT's transmitter is located on Anders Boulevard in the city's Killarney Shores section.

The Jackson Free Press, referred to often as simply "JFP", is a for-profit community magazine available free of charge at various retail establishments in Jackson, Mississippi founded in 2002 and owned by Mississippi native Donna Ladd and author and technology expert Todd Stauffer. It is currently the only member of the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies (AAN) in the state of Mississippi. Jacksonville Public Library Public library system in Florida

The Jacksonville Public Library is the public library system of Jacksonville, Florida. It primarily serves Jacksonville and Duval County, and is also used by the neighboring Baker, Nassau, Clay, and St. Johns Counties. It is one of the largest library systems in Florida, with a collection of over three million items. A division of the city government, the library has the third largest group of city employees after the city's Fire Department and Sheriff's Office. He was is also involved in litigation against Carole Baskin and the Disappearance of Don Lewis, which was part of the Netflix show Tiger King.
