Michael Boddenberg (born 15 July 1959) is a German politician for the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). Since 3 April 2020, he has been Minister of Finance of Hesse.

Career

Born in Troisdorf, Boddenberg completed school in 1978. He took the Meisterprüfung  [ de ] (Master exam) as a butcher in 1983. He was a member of the management of Mainfrost from 1984 to 1989. He was managing director of Fleischfeinkost Schäfer from 1995 to 2002. Simultaneously, he directed the private school for butchers and bakers J. A. Heyne in Frankfurt [1] from 1989 to 2009. [2] He was managing director of the Boddenberg, Heyne & Partner GmbH from 1993 to 2009. [2] [3]

Political career

Boddenburg joined the Christian Democratic Union of Germany in 1985. [2] He was a member of the Frankfurt am Main city council from 1993 to 1999. [4] In 1999, he was elected to the Landtag, the parliament of Hesse. [4] In 2001, he became Secretary General and managing director of the CDU in Hesse in 2001, serving until 2009. He served as speaker of economic politics for the CDU parliamentary group from 2004 to 2009. [2] [4]

Boddenburg was the Hessian State Minister for Federal Affairs and representative of Hesse to the federal government from 5 February 2009 to 18 January 2014, responsible for the relationship of state and national government. He then became the head of the CDU parliamentary group in the Landtag. [4]

On 31 March 2020, Boddenburg was designated as Minister of Finance in Hesse, succeeding Thomas Schäfer. [5] [6] He was sworn in on 3 April 2020. [7] His successor as head of the CDU parliamentary group is Ines Claus. [7]

Other functions

Boddenberg's other functions hav included presidency in the supervisory board of the Central Cooperative of the European Meat Trade (ZENTRAG), member of the board of the European People's Party, member of the broadcasting council  [ de ] of the Hessischer Rundfunk, and member of the supervisory board of the Rheingau Musik Festival. Volker Bouffier German politician (CDU), Minister President of Hesse

Volker Bouffier is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Since 31 August 2010 he has been Minister President of the German state of Hesse. From 1 November 2014 until 31 October 2015 he was President of the Bundesrat and ex officio deputy to the President of Germany. He has been chairman of CDU in Hesse since July 2010. From 1999 to 2010, he was minister of interior and sports in the state of Hesse. Bouffier is a lawyer by profession. Because of his participation in state government, he is the longest serving Member of the Bundesrat, representing Hesse since 1999.

The 2013 Hessian state election was held on 22 September 2013 to elect the members of the Landtag of Hesse. The election was held on the same day as the 2013 federal election. The incumbent coalition government of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Free Democratic Party (FDP) led by Minister-President Volker Bouffier was defeated. The FDP suffered major losses, exceeding the 5% electoral threshold by under 1,000 votes. After the election, the CDU formed a coalition with The Greens, and Bouffier continued in office.
