Michael William Vincent Collins (born 3 June 1993) is a professional rugby union player who plays as centre. He is a former captain of the Otago Boys' High School 1st XV and a former New Zealand Schools representative. He has turned down offers from the NRL franchise the Melbourne Storm and ITM Cup Premiership side Waikato to play for Otago. Collins most recently played for the Ospreys in the United Rugby Championship.

Career

Collins made his Otago debut in 2012, and played for the NPC side until 2020. [1]

In 2015, Collins joined Welsh club the Scarlets on a short-term contract, returning to New Zealand at the end of the season. [2]

Upon his return to New Zealand, Collins joined Super Rugby team the Blues. [3]

Otago-born Collins joined his home region, the Highlanders, for the 2020 Super Rugby season and was involved with the side for the next two seasons. [4]

Collins returned to Wales in 2021, joining the Ospreys in the newly formed United Rugby Championship. [5] He made his debut on 26 September 2021, scoring two tries in a Man of the Match performance against the Dragons. [6]

On 23 June 2023, Collins announced his departure from the Ospreys. [7] On 18 July 2023, Collins Joind Toshiba Brave Lupus,in Japan Rugby League One from 2023-24 Season.

Collins is Welsh-qualified, through his Llanelli-born grandfather. [8]

The Ospreys, formerly the Neath–Swansea Ospreys is one of the four professional rugby union teams from Wales. They compete in the United Rugby Championship and the European Rugby Champions Cup. The Scarlets are one of the four professional Welsh rugby union teams and are based in Llanelli, Wales. Their home ground is the Parc y Scarlets stadium. The club was originally named the Llanelli Scarlets but was renamed at the start of the 2008–09 rugby season.

Kenneth James Owens is a Welsh rugby union player who plays as a hooker for the Scarlets and Wales. He made his debut for the Scarlets in 2006, taking over from Matthew Rees as their first-choice hooker upon Rees' departure for the Cardiff Blues in 2013. He also served as backup to Rees, among others, for Wales following his debut against Namibia at the 2011 Rugby World Cup. In 2016, he took over as Wales' first-choice hooker, and in January 2023, following almost a year out with a back injury, he was named as captain for the 2023 Six Nations Championship.

The 2016–17 season was the 14th season in the history of the Scarlets, a Welsh rugby union regional side based in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. In this season, they won the Pro12 playoffs after finishing third in the league, and also competed in the Rugby Champions Cup and the Anglo-Welsh Cup. It was Wales international centre Jonathan Davies' first season back at the region after leaving for Clermont Auvergne in 2014.
