Michael Copeland is a Canadian business, sports executive and former president and CEO of the Toronto Argonauts. From 2013 to 2015 he was the president and COO of the Canadian Football League. [1]

Biography

University and business

In 1993, he graduated from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. In 1999, he went on to get an MBA from the university's Ivey Business School. He went on to work in a variety of law and consulting companies such as practicing corporate and commercial law with Blake, Cassels & Graydon in Toronto and Harrison, Elwood in London, Ontario, as well as becoming a Senior Consultant at Deloitte Consulting in Sydney Australia, and then going on to work for three years with the Boston Consulting Group. After working with Boston Consulting, he went into business development and marketing at the Molson Coors Brewing Company. [2]

Canadian Football League

In January 2006, he became the chief operating officer of the Canadian Football League. In February 2013, he became President and COO of the league. [3]

In May 2015, the Toronto Argonauts were bought by Kilmer Sports and Bell Canada from David Braley. On 13 July 2015, it was announced that Copeland would become president and CEO of the Argonauts at the beginning of 2016. He replaced Chris Rudge who had served in that role since 2012. [4] [5] In 2018, Copeland was replaced as president by new owners Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment with Bill Manning. [6]

The Toronto Argonauts are a professional Canadian football team competing in the East Division of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Based in Toronto, Ontario, the team was founded in 1873, and is the oldest existing professional sports team in North America still using its original name, and they are the oldest-surviving team in both the modern-day CFL and East Division. The team's origins date back to a modified version of rugby football that emerged in North America in the latter half of the nineteenth century. Pinball Clemons American-Canadian sports executive

Michael Lutrell "Pinball" Clemons is an American-Canadian sports executive and former running back and return specialist who serves as general manager for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Clemons played with the Argonauts for twelve seasons where he was a two-time All-Star and a three-time Grey Cup Champion, and twice served as their head coach before becoming an administrator, since winning three more Grey Cups. His no. 31 jersey is one of only four that have been retired by the Argonauts. He is one of the most famous former Argos players, and is also one of the most popular professional athletes in the history of Toronto. Clemons has stated that he feels CFL football is the best football in the world. Clemons is 5 ft 6 in (167 cm) tall and weighs 170 pounds (77 kg).

Following a business career in the printing industry, Rudge served as CEO of the Canadian Olympic Committee for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia, and also chaired the successful Canadian program 'Own The Podium'.

Lirim Hajrullahu is a Kosovo-born Canadian gridiron football placekicker for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL). He became a Grey Cup champion with the Toronto Argonauts after kicking the game-winning field goal in the 105th Grey Cup game (2017) and is a two-time Canadian Football League East Division All-Star. Hajrullahu played college football at Western Ontario and attended Governor Simcoe Secondary School in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Randy Ambrosie is the 14th and current commissioner of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Ambrosie played Canadian football professionally as an offensive guard for the CFL's Calgary Stampeders, Toronto Argonauts, and Edmonton Eskimos. He was selected with the second overall pick in the 1985 CFL Draft by the Stampeders. Over the course of a nine-season career, he played in 142 professional games and became a Grey Cup champion. Ambrosie played college football at the University of Manitoba.

Bill Manning is a sports executive currently employed by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment; serving as president of Toronto FC in Major League Soccer and the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. He has also worked in the front office of the Houston Rockets of the NBA and the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL. He previously was a professional soccer player. Born in the United States, he represented the Puerto Rico national team.

Kurleigh Gittens Jr. Canadian football player

Kurleigh Gittens Jr. is a professional Canadian football wide receiver for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played U Sports football for the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks where he was the OUA Most Valuable Player in 2017.
