Michael Dishington Scott was Chief Justice of Tonga.
Scott is a British national with a long career in the Pacific. [1] He has previously served as a judge in Kiribati and the Solomon Islands,and served for 14 years as a judge on the High Court of Fiji. [2] As a High Court judge in Fiji,in Yabaki v President of the Republic of the Fiji Islands,he ruled that the interim government established in the wake of the 2000 Fijian coup d'état was legal. [3] This ruling was later overturned on appeal. [4] From 2004 to 2007 he was a judge of the Fijian Court of Appeal. [2]
He was appointed Chief Justice of Tonga in August 2010,replacing Tony Ford. [2] He assumed the role on 27 September 2010. [1] He was replaced by Owen Paulsen in January 2015. [5]
The politics of Fiji take place within the framework of a parliamentary representative democratic republic. Fiji has a multiparty system with the Prime Minister of Fiji as head of government. The executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the Parliament of Fiji. The judiciary is mostly independent of the executive and the legislature.

Ratu Jope Naucabalavu Seniloli was a Fijian chief who held the title of Turaga Taukei Naua and who served as Fiji's vice-president from 25 March 2001 to 29 November 2004,when he was forced to resign following his conviction for treason on 6 August 2004,and the rejection of his appeal early in November.
Taniela (Daniel) Vafo'ou Fatiaki CF was the Chief Justice of Fiji from 1 August 2002,when he succeeded Sir Timoci Tuivaga,till 5 December 2008. As Chief Justice,he presided over both the High Court and the Supreme Court,but was constitutionally barred from presiding over,or even sitting on,the Appeal Court. On 3 January 2007,he was sent on leave by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces,which had seized power on 5 December 2006. On 19 January,he was formally suspended,pending an investigation into allegations of misconduct. This investigation was dropped in December 2008 as part of a deal that involved his formal resignation.
The chief justice is Fiji's highest judicial officer. The office and its responsibilities are set out in Chapter 5 of the 2013 Constitution of Fiji. The Chief Justice is appointed by the President on the advice of the Prime Minister
Sir Timoci Uluiburotu Tuivaga was a Fijian judge,who served as Chief Justice from 31 March 1980 to 31 July 2002,when he retired. He was Fiji's first native-born Chief Justice.
The Court of Appeal of Fiji is one of three courts that were established by Chapter 9 of the 1997 Constitution,the others being the High Court and the Supreme Court. The Court of Appeal was a new institution established when the 1997 Constitution came into effect;the other two courts predated it. The Constitution authorizes the Court of Appeal "to hear and determine appeals" from all judgements of the High Court. From time to time,other powers may be assigned to this court by law.
Anthony Harold Cumberland Thomas Gates was the chief justice of Fiji from 2008 to 2019. Justice Gates is best known for his decision in Chandrika Prasad v. Att-Gen of Fiji [2000] 2 FLR 89;Prasad v. Republic of Fiji &Another [2001] 1 LRC 665;[2001] NZAR 21 in which he held that the Constitution of Fiji had not been abrogated by the military intervention in 2000,and that the Constitution continued to be the law of the land. His decision was upheld by Fiji’s Court of Appeal,in February 2001. However,the decision which should have led to the restoration of the Parliament suspended by the coup of 2000 was not obeyed by the government at that time,the Government instead choosing to call for a vote in 2001.

The Court of Appeal of Tonga is the supreme court in Tonga for all criminal and most civil matters. It hears criminal and civil appeals from the Supreme Court and also hears appeals from the Land Court.
The judiciary of Solomon Islands is a branch of the Government of Solomon Islands that interprets and applies the laws of Solomon Islands,to ensure equal justice under law,and to provide a mechanism for dispute resolution. The legal system is derived from chapter VII,part II of the Constitution,adopted when the country became independent from the United Kingdom in 1978. The Constitution provided for the creation of a High Court,with original jurisdiction in civil and criminal cases,and a Court of Appeal. The Chief Justice of the High Commissioner's Court, more commonly known as the Chief Judicial Commissioner for the Western Pacific,was the chief judicial officer throughout the British Western Pacific Territories from 1877 through 1976. This was a supra-colonial entity established by the Western Pacific Orders-in-Council 1877,and by the Pacific Order-in-Council 1893. Headed by a High Commissioner for the Western Pacific,who was also ex officio the Governor of Fiji,until the end of 1952,it included numerous islands,mostly small,throughout Oceania. Composition varied over time,but Fiji (1877–1952) and the Solomon Islands (1893–1976) were its most durable members.
Owen Paulsen is a New Zealand jurist,who served as Chief Justice of Tonga from 2015 to 2019. Since August 2019 he has been an Associate Justice of the High Court of New Zealand.
