The Collingwood Football Club, nicknamed the Magpies or colloquially the Pies, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Melbourne, Victoria, that was formed in 1892 in the suburb of Collingwood. The club played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) before joining seven other teams in 1896 to found the breakaway Victorian Football League, today known as the Australian Football League (AFL). Originally based at Victoria Park, Collingwood now plays its home games at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and has its training and administrative headquarters at Olympic Park Oval and the Holden Centre.

Thomas Stanley Raymond Hafey was an Australian rules football Victorian Football League player and coach. Hafey played for Richmond between 1953 and 1958, and coached four clubs—Richmond, Collingwood, Geelong and Sydney—between 1966 and 1988, leading Richmond to a total of four premierships: 1967, 1969, 1973 and 1974. Hafey was an inaugural inductee into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1996, named coach of Richmond's team of the century in 1998, and given the AFL Coaches Association "Coaching Legend Award" in 2011. He was renowned for his fitness and toughness even in his elderly years when he would still run rings around his juniors. He would do over 700 push ups and crunches a day every day since he started playing AFL.
Gary Pert is a former Australian rules footballer who represented Fitzroy and Collingwood in the Australian Football League (AFL). Tall, well-built and strong in the air, Pert played over 200 league games, despite suffering two serious knee injuries in the prime years of his career. Early in one season, Pert suffered a bizarre injury when he went to his girlfriend's house for dinner and got a biscuit stuck in his oesophagus. The blockage remained overnight and so the following day he underwent an oesophagoscopy under general anaesthetic. He recovered in time for the Round 5 game against Richmond. He returned in 1989, winning Fitzroy's best and fairest.
Edward Michael "Ted" Rowell was a professional athlete, and an Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
James Podsiadly is a former professional Australian rules football player who played for the Geelong Football Club and the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was drafted by Geelong as a mature-aged rookie at pick #50 in the 2009 rookie draft and was traded to Adelaide after the 2013 season.
