Knight is a graduate of the University of Oregon and the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He was part of the track and field club under coach Bill Bowerman at the University of Oregon with whom he would later co-found Nike.

Steadman Upham was an American archaeologist and university administrator who served as president of Claremont Graduate University from 1998 to 2004 and the University of Tulsa (TU) from 2004 to 2016. Prior to this time,he was vice provost for research and dean of the Graduate School and professor of archaeology at the University of Oregon. University Hall,formerly Deady Hall,is a historic building located in Eugene,Oregon,United States. It was built from 1873 to 1876 by W. H. Abrams to a design by architect William W. Piper. It was the University of Oregon's first building,and remained the university's only building for almost ten years after its construction. After the university gained other buildings,it was known simply as the "Old Building",but in 1893 it was renamed "Deady Hall" in honor of Matthew Deady,Oregon's first federal judge. Ironically,Deady believed that state universities were of little use to anybody,and in 1857,during the Oregon Constitutional Convention,Deady moved to strike the section authorizing a university from the Oregon State Constitution. His efforts were initially successful,although by the 1870s a state university had become inevitable,and the building that bears his name was constructed in spite of Deady's earlier objections. In another twist of fate,Deady was first president of the university's Board of Regents.

The self-control theory of crime suggests that individuals who were ineffectually parented before the age of ten develop less self-control than individuals of approximately the same age who were raised with better parenting. Research has also found that low levels of self-control are correlated with criminal and impulsive conduct.

Don Martin Gottfredson was an American criminologist who was the founding dean of the School of Criminal Justice at Rutgers University. At the time of his death in 2002,he was the Richard J. Hughes Professor Emeritus of Criminal Justice at Rutgers. The Criminal Justice Library at Rutgers was renamed the Don M. Gottfredson Library of Criminal Justice in his memory in 2003.
