Michael Scherer (born November 15, 1993) is an American football coach and former linebacker, who is currently the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for Purdue University. Scherer played college football at Missouri from 2012 to 2016 for head coaches Gary Pinkel and Barry Odom. He served as the defensive coordinator for the UNLV Rebels.

Playing career

Scherer played for the Missouri Tigers for four seasons between 2012–2016. In his career, he played in 38 games notching 266 tackles with 17 being for a loss, a sack, and an interception. [1]

Coaching career

Scherer got his first career coaching job in 2019 as a graduate assistant for his alma mater the Missouri Tigers. [2] In 2020, Scherer joined the Arkansas Razorbacks as defensive analyst for the Razorbacks. [3] After one season with the Razorbacks, Scherer was promoted in 2021 to serve as the Razorbacks linebackers coach. [4] For the 2022 Liberty Bowl, Scherer was temporarily promoted to serve as the Razorbacks interim defensive coordinator. [5] During his time at Arkansas, Scherer coached players linebackers such as Grant Morgan, Bumper Pool, Hayden Henry and Drew Sanders, where all four of them recorded seasons with 100 tackles under Scherer. Additionally, Sanders was an AP First-Team All-American. [6] In 2023, Scherer was hired by the UNLV Rebels to become the team's defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. [7]

Bielema served as the head football coach at the University of Wisconsin–Madison from 2006 to 2012, achieving a 68–24 record and taking them to three straight Rose Bowl Games, although they lost each time. He was the head football coach at University of Arkansas from 2013 to 2017, tallying a mark of 29–34. Reginald Wayne Herring is an American football coach and former player and most recently the linebackers coach for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). A former linebacker at Florida State University, he began his coaching career in 1981. He has now coached for 36 years across college and the NFL. Herring arrived in Denver to coach linebackers in 2015 after previous stops in the league with Chicago (2014), Houston and Dallas (2008–10). Herring has coached nine linebackers who have made Pro Bowl appearances during their careers, including outside linebackers DeMarcus Ware (9), Mario Williams (4), and Connor Barwin (1), and inside linebackers Zach Thomas (7), Keith Brooking (5), Lance Briggs (7), Brian Cushing (1), Sean Lee (2) and DeMeco Ryans (2). Herring also served as the interim head football coach for the University of Arkansas in the 2008 Cotton Bowl Classic.

Travis Williams is an American football coach and a former linebacker. He is the defensive coordinator for the University of Arkansas, a position he has held since 2023. He played college football for Auburn and professionally for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). He also coached for Auburn, Northern Iowa, Creekside High School, and UCF.

The 2008 Arkansas Razorbacks football team represented the University of Arkansas in the 2008 football season. The Razorbacks played five home games at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Arkansas and one home game at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas.[a] The Razorbacks finished the season with an overall record of 5–7 and a conference record of 2–6 in Bobby Petrino's inaugural season.

The 2003 Independence Bowl was a post-season college football bowl game between the Missouri Tigers and the Arkansas Razorbacks on December 31, 2003, at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana. Missouri was making their first bowl appearance since 1998. This was Missouri's first bowl game under Head Coach Gary Pinkel. Arkansas, on the other hand, made their sixth straight bowl appearance, but had lost the last three.

Robb Smith is an American football coach and former player. He is currently an analyst for the Penn State Nittany Lions. Previously, he was the defensive coordinator for the Duke Blue Devils, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Arkansas Razorbacks and Minnesota Golden Gophers. The 2013 Missouri Tigers football team represented the University of Missouri in the 2013 NCAA Division I FBS football season. It marked the Tigers' second season as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in the Eastern Division. The team was led by head coach Gary Pinkel, in his 13th year and played its home games at Faurot Field in Columbia, Missouri. The Tigers went into the season hoping to return to a bowl game after missing out the previous season. They succeeded after an 11–1 regular season and their first-ever SEC Eastern Division title. After a loss to Auburn in the SEC Championship Game they played in the 2014 Cotton Bowl Classic on January 3, 2014, against Oklahoma State, which they won 41–31. The two teams had last met on October 22, 2011.

Barry Stephen Odom is an American football coach and former linebacker who is the head football coach at Purdue University. He previously served as the head coach at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas from 2023 to 2024, and the University of Missouri from 2016 to 2019. Odom played college football at Missouri from 1996 to 1999 and became a coach there in 2005.
