Michalis Papapetrou is a Cypriot politician and diplomat. [1] [2] He was born in Nicosia,Cyprus on April 11,1947. He graduated from the Kykko Pancyprian Gymnasium and after his studies in Law,in the University of Athens and the University College London,he is a practicing lawyer since 1972.
In the past he held the posts of chairman of the Union of Cypriot Students in London,member of the Council of the Federation of Students Unions (OEFEK),Secretary General of OMONIA F.C.,member of the Cyprus Bar Council and chairman of EDON.
In 1985 he was elected as member of the House of Representatives with AKEL. In 1990,following internal conflict in AKEL and the deposition of Andreas Fantis and Andreas Ziartides,Papapetrou joined the two and Pavlos Diglis and founded ADISOK (Greek :ΑΔΗΣΟΚ- ΑνανεωτικόΔημοκρατικόΣοσιαλιστικόΚόμμα). He served ADISOK from the post Chairman,Deputy Chairman and Member of Parliament. In December 1996,following the merging of the Free Democrats with ADISOK,he was elected as Deputy Chairman and in October 2005 as Chairman of the United Democrats.
From 25/8/1999 until 28/2/2003 he served as Government Spokesman in Clerides administration. During the same period he was member of the Greek –Cypriot negotiating team in the intercommunal talks on Cyprus held under the auspices of U. N. He is married and has a daughter and a son who are practicing lawyers.

From 2007 to 2011,she served as the mayor of the capital city,Nicosia. Thus,Mavrou became the first female mayor of Nicosia,as well as the first female Minister of Interior.
Michalis Karaolis was a Cypriot public official and revolutionary. Born in the village of Palaichori Oreinis of Pitsilia,Karaolis worked as a government clerk and a member of EOKA. He was the first to be sentenced to death and hanged alongside Andreas Dimitriou on 10 May 1956.
Pavlos Kouroupis was an officer in the Hellenic Army. At the time of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974,Kouroupis was a Colonel and CO of the 251st Battalion of the Cypriot National Guard,the unit closest to the Turkish landing site. With his unit,Kouroupis opposed the Turkish army at the Battle of Pentemili beachhead,stalling its advance for two days. Kouroupis was forced to retreat before numerically far superior Turkish forces and is considered the first missing person of the conflict. Kouroupis was presumed dead during the defence of Kyrenia.
Parliamentary elections were held in Cyprus in 1960. The House of Representatives was elected on 31 July 1960. The Communal Chambers were also elected on 7 August. In the House of Representatives 35 seats were elected by Greek Cypriots and 15 by Turkish Cypriots. The result was a victory for the Patriotic Front,which won 30 of the 50 seats. In the Communal Chambers,the Patriotic Front won the majority of seats in the Greek Chamber,whilst the Cyprus Turkish National Union won all seats in the Turkish Chamber.
Andreas Koukouma is a commentator and literary critic of the left. As a poet he is known by his pen-name Antis Kanakis. His poems and short stories deal with universal themes and are written in the Cypriot dialect. His poems also address the Turkish invasion of 1974,in which with others he unsuccessfully fought to repel,and promote the peaceful co-existence of Turkish and Greek Cypriots.

Pavlos Kalligas was a Greek jurist,writer and politician,who served as professor at the University of Athens,Member and Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament,cabinet minister for Foreign Affairs,Education,Finance and Justice and chairman of the National Bank of Greece.
Pavlos Fyssas,also known by his stage name Killah P,was a Greek rapper,notable for his participation and performance in musical projects,as well as for his anti-fascist activism. He toured well-known venues in Athens and throughout Greece. He was murdered on 18 September 2013 by a member of the neo-fascist group Golden Dawn.

He commenced his political career at the local government level,serving as Mayor of Sfakia from 2011 to 2015. He served as Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administrative Reconstruction. in the First Cabinet of Alexis Tsipras and Alternate Minister of Health in the Second Cabinet. He has been an elected MP for Chania with SYRIZA since 2015.
