Michelle Clayman

Michelle R. Clayman is chief investment officer of New Amsterdam Partners, LLC, [1] a firm she founded in 1986. New Amsterdam Partners offers large cap and mid cap investment strategies to institutional investors. Clayman sits on the Boards of the Society of Quantitative Analysts [2] (of which she is a past President), and The Institute for Quantitative Research. [3] She is a frequent commentator for CNBC, Bloomberg, and other financial media.

Education

A graduate of Stanford University's Graduate School of Business, Clayman is the first woman to receive the School's Excellence in Leadership Award, in 2008. [4]

Philanthropy & Causes

She is a strong supporter of women's causes, notably as the chair of the Michelle R. Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford University. In 2010, the National Council for Research on Women awarded Clayman the "Making a Difference for Women Award [5] " recognizing Clayman's leadership in supporting research on women. In 2018 she was appointed to Stanford University's board of trustees. [6]

Clayman has been a Girl Scout troop leader for many years and as of 2022 is serving as chair of the board of directors of the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York. [7]

As of 2015 she was on the board of Sustainable Health Enterprises (SHE). [8] [9] She is known as a role model for women in finance. [10]

Clayman says she owes her education to her mother, who was evacuated from England to the United States during World War II and there received a college education. Her mother then ensured her children benefited in the same way. Clayman received a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University, England (MA Oxon).

Clayman's other volunteer activities include serving as a Director of Children of Bellevue, [11] a charity providing services to children at New York's Bellevue Hospital. She is also a member of the Dean's Council at the Harvard Divinity School.[ citation needed ]

Myron Samuel Scholes is a Canadian-American financial economist. Scholes is the Frank E. Londa Schiebinger is the John L. Hinds Professor of History of Science, Department of History, and by courtesy the d-school, Stanford University. She received her Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1984. An international authority on the theory, practice, and history of gender and intersectionality in science, technology, and medicine, she is the founding Director of Gendered Innovations in Science, Medicine, Engineering, and Environment. She is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Schiebinger received honorary doctorates from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium (2013), from the Faculty of Science, Lund University, Sweden (2017), and from Universitat de València, Spain (2018). She was the first woman in the field of History to win the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Research Prize in 1999.

Stanford University has many centers and institutes dedicated to the study of various specific topics. Deborah Lynn Rhode was an American jurist. She was the Ernest W. McFarland Professor of Law at Stanford Law School and the nation's most frequently cited scholar in legal ethics. From her early days at Yale Law School, her work revolved around questions of injustice in the practice of law and the challenges of identifying and redressing it. Rhode founded and led several research centers at Stanford devoted to these issues, including its Center on the Legal Profession, Center on Ethics and Program in Law and Social Entrepreneurship; she also led the Michelle R. Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford. She coined the term "The 'No-Problem' Problem".

Bali White is a researcher and writer interested in African, environmental, and gender studies. She is currently a Research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). As trans woman, she is also a community organizer and advocate addressing transgender identity, legal, health care and social concerns at the national, state and local levels. Her research and activist work around transgender advocacy and ballroom community youth has been influential in the field of public health. She previously served on the National Advisory Board for the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health and managed the CDC-funded initiatives for young trans women and MSM in the ballroom community at the Hetrick-Martin Institute.

Marilyn Yalom was a feminist author and historian. She was a senior scholar at the Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford University, and a professor of French. She served as the institute's director from 1984 to 1985. Prior to teaching at Stanford, Yalom taught at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and California State University Hayward.
