Harris County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas;as of the 2020 census,the population was 4,731,145,making it the most populous county in Texas and the third most populous county in the United States. Its county seat is Houston,the largest city in Texas and fourth largest city in the United States. The county was founded in 1836 and organized in 1837. It is named for John Richardson Harris,who founded the town of Harrisburg on Buffalo Bayou in 1826. According to the July 2021 census estimate,Harris County's population has shifted to 4,728,030 comprising over 16% of Texas's population. Harris County is included in the nine-county Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan statistical area,which is the fifth-most populous metropolitan area in the United States.
Kyle Janek is an American physician and former Republican member of the Texas Senate,having represented District 17 from November 2002 until June 2,2008. The district includes portions of Harris,Brazoria,Fort Bend,Galveston,and Jefferson counties. Janek was not a candidate for renomination to the state Senate in the Republican primary held on March 4.

The 2006 Texas General Election was held on Tuesday,7 November 2006,in the U.S. state of Texas. Voters statewide elected the Governor,Lieutenant Governor,Attorney General,Comptroller of Public Accounts,Commissioner of the General Land Office,Commissioner of Agriculture,and one Railroad Commissioner. Statewide judicial offices up for election were the chief justice and four justices of the Texas Supreme Court,and the presiding judge and two judges of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
The 2006 Texas 22nd congressional district election for the 110th Congress was held on November 7,2006,and attracted considerable attention because this district was represented by former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay,a prominent member of the Republican Party,who resigned after being indicted and subsequently winning the Republican primary. Because of Texas state law,Republicans,in order to hold on to the seat,would have had to win a write-in campaign,something that has only been done four other times in the history of U.S. congressional elections.
The Texas Courts of Appeals are part of the Texas judicial system. In Texas,all cases appealed from district and county courts,criminal and civil,go to one of the fourteen intermediate courts of appeals,with one exception:death penalty cases. The latter are taken directly to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals,the court of last resort for criminal matters in the State of Texas. The highest court for civil and juvenile matters is the Texas Supreme Court. While the Supreme Court (SCOTX) and the Court of Criminal Appeals (CCA) each have nine members per the Texas Constitution,the sizes of the intermediate courts of appeals are set by statute and vary greatly,depending on historical case filings and so that the justices on each court can timely adjudicate the volume of cases regularly before them. The total number of intermediate appellate court seats currently stands at 80,ranging from three,four,six,seven,nine,and thirteen (Dallas) per court.
The Libertarian Party of Texas is the state affiliate of the Libertarian Party in Texas,US. In 1971,Texas was one of the 13 original founding state parties at the first LP convention in Denver,Colorado. Over the next five years,county affiliate parties were founded in Travis,Harris,Dallas,and Bexar counties. In February 1980,Charles Fuller of Houston becomes the first Texas libertarian to appear on the ballot as a Libertarian Party candidate. Fuller ran in a Special Election for State Representative District 80. The party first qualified for statewide ballot access in 1980,and then again on September 1,1982 with 41,000 petition signatures. The party ran 122 candidates that November. Legal issues making signature collection more difficult prevented the party from achieving ballot access in 1984,but it was able to collect the required 32,000 signatures in 1986 to once again make it on the ballot. Three statewide candidates achieved at least 5% of the vote that November,automatically granting the party ballot access for 1988. In the 1990 statewide elections,gubernatorial candidate Jeff Daiell achieved 3.3% of the vote (129,128) and Comptroller candidate Gill Grisham received 5.8%,guaranteeing ballot access through 1994. Mr. Daiell's showing is still the LP of Texas record in a gubernatorial race in terms of per centage;in 2018 Mark Tippetts broke the record for most votes. On March 9,1998,U.S. District Judge James Nowlin stopped the State of Texas from requiring voter registration numbers alongside ballot access petition signatures in Pilcher v. Rains,brought by the Libertarian Party of Texas. In every election since except that of 2002,at least one of the party's candidates achieved 5% of the vote,guaranteeing ballot access. In May 2004 the party easily met the state's signature requirement. In the November 2006 elections,the party ran 168 candidates,and easily secured ballot access for 2008 in two-way races for state judicial positions,with the highest vote total going to Jerry Adkins for Supreme Court Place 4:830,331 votes,or 24.5%. In the May 2019 local Texas elections,Tony Valdivia achieved 29.5% in the race for the San Antonio District 8 council seat. This result marked the first time that a Libertarian Party member exceeded 10% in a major Texas city council election. Unlike Republicans and Democrats,the Libertarian Party of Texas holds county,district,and state conventions to nominate their candidates for public office. The party also accepts no tax dollars for their conventions.

Warren Kenneth Paxton Jr. is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the Attorney General of Texas since January 2015. Paxton has described himself as a Tea Party conservative. Paxton was re-elected to a second term as Attorney General in 2018. He previously served as Texas State Senator for the 8th district and the Texas State Representative for the 70th district.
Cathleen Cochran Herasimchuk,was a judge of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. A resident of Austin,Texas,she was initially appointed to the court on September 28,2001 by Governor Rick Perry and elected by Texas voters in 2002 and 2008. She did not seek re-election to the bench in 2014 and was succeeded in her Place 9 seat by her fellow Republican,David Newell of Houston. She died on February 7,2021.

Ronald Eugene Reynolds is an American lawyer and politician who is a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives representing state District 27. He was first elected in 2010. Reynolds was also an attorney in private practice with the Brown,Brown &Reynolds law firm,but was suspended from the practice of law. He was disbarred on July 29,2019. Additionally,Reynolds has served as a Houston Associate Municipal Judge.
Elsa R. Alcala,also known as Elsa Spjut,is a former Republican official who most recently served (2011–2018) as one of the nine judges of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. She was appointed to the Place 8 on the bench by then Governor Rick Perry,when Charles Holcomb stepped down to run in 2012 for the United States Senate. On July 16,2019 she announced she was leaving the Republican Party to support Democrats at the state and national level.
Carolyn Wright-Sanders is an American lawyer,jurist and a former Chief Justice of the Fifth Court of Appeals of Texas,serving in that position from November 17,2009 to December 31,2018.
The 2018 general election was held in the U.S. state of Texas on November 6,2018. All of Texas's executive officers were up for election as well as a United States Senate seat,and all of Texas's thirty-six seats in the United States House of Representatives. The Republican and Democratic Parties nominated their candidates by primaries held March 6,2018. Convention Parties nominated their candidates at a series of conventions. County Conventions held March 17,2018,District Conventions held March 24,2018,and a State Convention held April 14,2018. At the present time there is only one Convention Party in Texas,that is the Libertarian Party. Other parties may seek to achieve ballot access.
Texas state elections in 2020 were held on Tuesday,November 3,2020. Its primaries were held on March 3,2020,with runoffs taking place on July 14.
The 2022 Texas elections will be held on November 8,2022. Primary elections are scheduled for March 1,with runoffs held on May 24 for primary candidates who did not receive a majority of the vote.
