The Middle East Theatre Academy (META) is a programme aimed to introduce young actors to the art of theatre and stage performance in the Middle East. The academy was launched by Emirati businessperson Badr Jafar and Hollywood screen actor, director and producer Kevin Spacey. [1] The program was launched in February 2011.
In February 2011, Emirati businessman Badr Jafar and Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey, launched The Middle East Theatre Academy (META). The non-profit academy aims to discover talented young actors, directors and producers from the Middle East. [2]
Although open to applicants from all backgrounds, META was designed to offer an opportunity for underprivileged, talented youth to upskill by means of workshops, master classes and special events. With the help of industry professionals, participants are instructed in areas of performance, directing, writing, producing, stage management, lighting, set design, costumes, and makeup application. [3]
In collaboration with the Kevin Spacey Foundation (KSF), on January 25, 2015, META also launched Home Grown— an initiative to discover and train young artistic talent across the Middle East. From over a group of 300 applicants, 34 young men and women from 12 countries were selected to complete the inaugural edition of the two-week training programme in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. [4] The culmination of the programme was an Arabic and English play titled Dhow Under the Sun, directed by Matt Wilde and written by Iraqi playwright Hassan Abdulrazzak. It was inspired by the lives of displaced youth across the Middle East, and specifically commissioned for the Home Grown students to perform to an audience at the Sharjah Institute for Theatrical Arts. Kevin Spacey Fowler is an American actor, producer, and singer. Spacey began his career as a stage actor during the 1980s, obtaining supporting roles in film and television. Spacey's first roles in film were in Mike Nichols' Heartburn (1986), and Working Girl (1988). He gained critical acclaim in the 1990s, with an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the neo-noir crime thriller The Usual Suspects (1995) and an Academy Award for Best Actor for the midlife-crisis themed drama American Beauty (1999). Spacey's other starring roles have included Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), the comedy-drama film Swimming with Sharks (1994), the psychological thriller Seven (1995), the neo-noir crime film L.A. Confidential (1997), the drama Pay It Forward (2000), the science fiction-mystery film K-PAX (2001), the musical biopic Beyond the Sea (2004), the superhero film Superman Returns (2006), and the action film Baby Driver (2017).
Arthur Christopher Orme Plummer was a Canadian actor. His career spanned seven decades, gaining recognition for his performances in film, television and theatre. He made his Broadway debut in 1954 and continued to act in leading roles on stage playing Cyrano de Bergerac in Cyrano (1974), Iago in Othello, as well as playing the titular roles in Hamlet at Elsinore (1964), Macbeth, King Lear, and Barrymore. Plummer performed in stage productions, including J.B., No Man's Land and Inherit the Wind.

The Old Vic is a 1,000-seat, not-for-profit producing theatre just south-east of Waterloo station on the corner of the Cut and Waterloo Road in Lambeth, London, England. Established in 1818 as the Royal Coburg Theatre, and renamed in 1833 the Royal Victoria Theatre. In 1871 it was rebuilt and reopened as the Royal Victoria Palace. It was taken over by Emma Cons in 1880 and formally named the Royal Victoria Hall, although by that time it was already known as the "Old Vic". In 1898, a niece of Cons, Lilian Baylis, assumed management and began a series of Shakespeare productions in 1914. The building was damaged in 1940 during air raids and it became a Grade II* listed building in 1951 after it reopened.

The Society of London Theatre is an umbrella organisation for West End theatre in London. The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, is a Dubai government organisation working on the UAE space programme, which includes various space satellite projects, the Emirates Mars Mission, the Emirates Lunar Mission, and the UAE astronaut programme.
