Mika's Aroha Mardi Gras was a 2011 concert show by Mika Haka. [2] It was staged in Takutai Square, Auckland CBD, New Zealand on September 23 with two shows on the same day. [3] The show was part of the New Zealand series of entertainment events that was put on for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. [4] In mid October, Māori Television aired the concerts as a one-hour special. [5] The show was edited from footage of the second performance of the evening.
The shows were a free non ticketed event available to the public. [6] Combining both 6 pm and 8 pm shows, a total of 15,000 attended the event. [7] The show had over 680 people participating in the event, including 400 kids as part of the KA 400. [8] The event was choreographed by Jay Tewake. [9]
Rena Owen was the presenter of the Televised special, presenting the show as a story teller. Mika also performed alongside Jay Tewake, Edward Ru of Sweet & Irie, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Erakah and more. [10]

In 2014, Mika Haka recreated his Mika's Aroha Mardi Gras as part of the New Zealand Auckland Pride Festival. [11] This time it was a smaller event held in a bar called Legend Gay Bar. The event was held on the 6 February 2014 Waitangi Day. [12] The aim of the event was not only to shine a light on upcoming New Zealand talent but to also release his single Dress To Express featuring Zakk d’Larté and Hannah Martin. [13]

In 2016, Mika once again recreated Aroha Mardi Gras. The event was held on Karangahape Road in Auckland CBD outside the infamous Auckland Gay bar Family. [14] The event was held between 12pm and went on till 7 pm, which is a similar schedule to the Big Gay Out. The event was free to the public. This was the first time in 20 year that Karangahape Road has closed down for an event. [15] Parts of the event was filmed for the reality TV series Queens of Panguru where Ramon Te Wake, Jay Tewake, and Maihi Makiha all performed. [16]

Waitangi Day, the national day of New Zealand, marks the anniversary of the initial signing—on 6 February 1840—of the Treaty of Waitangi. The Treaty of Waitangi was an agreement towards British sovereignty by representatives of the Crown and indigenous Māori chiefs, and so is regarded by many as the founding document of the nation.
Haka are a variety of ceremonial dances in Māori culture. A performance art, haka are often performed by a group, with vigorous movements and stamping of the feet with rhythmically shouted accompaniment. Haka have been traditionally performed by both men and women for a variety of social functions within Māori culture. They are performed to welcome distinguished guests, or to acknowledge great achievements, occasions, or funerals.

Wolfe wrote and directed a stage play, The Haka Party Incident that was presented in 2023 in New Zealand.
The City Rail Link (CRL) is a rail project currently under construction in Auckland, New Zealand. The project consists of a 3.5 km (2.2 mi) long double-track rail tunnel underneath Auckland's city centre, between Waitematā (Britomart) and Maungawhau railway stations. Two new underground stations will be constructed to serve the city centre: Te Waihorotiu near Aotea Square and Karanga-a-Hape near Karangahape Road. Waitematā will be converted from a terminus station into a through station, and Mount Eden station will be replaced by Maungawhau station, a new station with four platforms to serve as an interchange between the new CRL line and the existing Western Line.

GURL is a 2020 New Zealand short film directed, written and produced by Mika X. The film premiered at the New Zealand International Film Festival as part of the "Ngā Whanaunga Māori Pasifika Shorts 2020" selection curated by Leo Koziol and Craig Fasi. GURL tells a story of Carmen Rupe experience in the context of being both Maori and LGBT: "The infamous Māori Drag Queen Carmen 'Gurl' finally accepts her-true-self when she falls in love with a fading rugby star on an ill-fated night in New Zealand 1975." This short film is a prequel to the feature film "The Book of Carmen" which has been in pre-production since the release of GURL.
Jay Tewake is a New Zealand actor. He is best known for his work on the short film GURL and the reality TV mini series Queens of Panguru.
Queens of Panguru a New Zealand reality television mini series that airs on Māori Television. The show focuses on the personal lives of three cousins Jay Tewake, Ramon Te Wake and Maihi Makiha. The three who are well known in the LGBT community in Auckland, New Zealand return home to their small town of Panguru. Its premise originated with Mika X, who also serves as an executive producer. The series debuted on March 22, 2017 with only five episodes in the series. All three queens are related through notable tribe leader Heremia Te Wake, who is the father of respected kuia, Dame Whina Cooper.
Mika X is a New Zealand Maori actor, producer, executive producer, and a music artist. Mika began his acting career in the 1980s in performing arts theatre before landing his first television role on Shark in the Park under his birth name Neil Gudsell. Mika had his first film role on The Rogue Stallion in his small role as Constable. Mika went on to producing and executive producing his on TV show including Mika Live and Te Mika Show. The largest short film him he has created was GURL which went on to win an award at the New Zealand International Film Festival.
Lani Daniels vs Alrie Meleisea, billed as Next World Champion is a scheduled boxing fight between Lani Daniels and Alrie Meleisea. It will take place on 27 May 2023 at Eventfinda Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand. This fight will make history for being the first World title between two New Zealand born boxers and the first World title between Maori and Pasifika people. Lani Daniels is well known for her first world title opportunity when she fought against Geovana Peres in their rematch dubbed History In The Making. Daniels three New Zealand title including the NZPBA Light Heavyweight title, Pro Box New Zealand Light Heavyweight title and Pro Box New Zealand Super Middleweight title. She represents her Iwi the Ngāti Hine. She is the second New Zealand Born female to be fighting for a major World title. The first being Daniella Smith, who is from the same hometown as Lani Daniels. Alrie Meleisea is a New Zealand born Samoan who has won three titles in her career including the NZPBA Heavyweight title, UBF Asia Pacific title and Pro Box New Zealand title.
