Mika Rissanen

Mika Rissanen (born 1978) is a Finnish history researcher and author of non-fiction and young adult literature. [1]

In 2005, Rissanen's book Antiikin Urheilu (Sports in Antiquity, co-written with Sami Koski and Juha Tahvanainen) won Tieto-Finlandia award for the best non-fiction book in Finland. [2] In 2016 his non-fiction book Down Beer Street: History in a Pint Glass (co-written with Juha Tahvanainen) was published in English, [3] in German [4] and in Italian. [5]

Rissanen has written his young adult thrillers, Arkeomysteeri series (Archeomystery) in co-operation with Juha Tahvanainen using the pseudonym Nemo Rossi.

Academic researches of Rissanen are focused in ancient history and European cultural history. [6]

The Finlandia Prize (Finlandia-palkinto) is a literary award in Finland by the Finnish Book Foundation. It is awarded annually to the author of the best Finnish novel, children's book, and non-fiction book of the year. The award sum is 30,000 euros. Works submitted for nomination may be in Finnish or Swedish and also works in other languages may be considered. Finnish literature

Finnish literature refers to literature written in Finland. During the European early Middle Ages, the earliest text in a Finnic language is the unique thirteenth-century Birch bark letter no. 292 from Novgorod. The text was written in Cyrillic and represented a dialect of Finnic language spoken in Russian Olonets region. The earliest texts in Finland were written in Swedish or Latin during the Finnish Middle Age. Finnish-language literature was slowly developing from the 16th century onwards, after written Finnish was established by the Bishop and Finnish Lutheran reformer Mikael Agricola (1510–1557). He translated the New Testament into Finnish in 1548.

Kari Tiainen is a Finnish former professional enduro rider. He competed in the World Enduro Championships from 1989 to 2003. Tiainen is notable for being a seven-time World Enduro Champion and held the record for most wins in the world championship (77), until the record was broken by compatriot Juha Salminen during the 2008 season. In 2012, Tiainen was named an FIM Legend for his motorcycling achievements.

Sofi Oksanen Finnish writer and playwright (born 1977)

Sofi-Elina Oksanen is a Finnish writer and playwright. Oksanen has published six novels, of which "Purge" has gained the widest recognition. She has received several international and domestic awards for her literary work. Her work has been translated into more than 40 languages and sold more than two million copies. Oksanen has been called "Finnish-Estonian Charles Dickens" and her work has often been compared to Margaret Atwood's novels. Oksanen is actively involved in public debate in Finland and comments on current issues in her columns and various talk shows.

Sandels (beer)

Sandels is a Finnish beer brand manufactured by the Olvi brewery since 1973. It is named after the Swedish marshal and war hero of the Finnish War, Johan August Sandels (1764–1831). The cans and bottles of the beer contain anecdotes and sayings from Sandels's life, many of them related to beer. The regular Sandels is a pale lager, but other versions of the beer exist as well, such as a darker beer, and a wheat beer. Sandels was named the top rated beer brand in Finland in a 2015 study.

Päivi Setälä Finnish historian and professor

Päivi Setälä was a Finnish historian and professor who influenced different areas of Finnish cultural life. She was one of the best advocates of Finnish women's research. In 1991, she became the first female professor of Women's Studies in Finland. She received the State Disclosure Award, Finnish Writers' Association's Warelius Award, and JV Snellman Award.
