Mikaela Davis (born April 9, 1992) is an American musician, harpist, songwriter, vocalist and producer. Pitchfork describes her music as "rugged alt-country, twangy roots rock, paisley-bedecked Laurel Canyon psychedelia, and jam-band choogle, always staying anchored in the interplay between the stringed instruments." [1] [2]
Davis is a classically trained harpist [3] and studied at the Crane School of Music. [4]
The 2023 release And Southern Star was well received with Pitchfork calling it "stirring" with "warm, inviting songs". [5] Glide Magazine recognized And Southern Star as one of the top 20 indie records of 2023 and called it "pure artistry". [6]
Southern Star is Davis’ backing band first appearing on her 2023 album And Southern Star . Its members are Alex Coté (drums), Kurt Johnson (pedal steel, lap steel, electric guitar), Shane McCarthy (bass), and Cian McCarthy (guitar, saxophone, vocals). [2]
